Zambia coach Herve Renard learned from Egypt

Renard: I learned from Egypt

Posted: 2012-02-13 09:16

Zambia coach Herve Renard says his African Nations Cup triumph was anchored on lessons learned from Egypt's success with domestic players.

Renard's Championship-winning team was composed mainly of players from the continent, with Congolese club TP Mazembe contributing seven. Others came from South African PSL clubs including Orlando Pirates, Free State Stars, SuperSport United and Zambian clubs.

Only three players in the squad play outside Africa.

“Egypt are the best team in Africa and we had to learn from the best because they won so many times with players from their country.

“But the Zambian league is not at the same level with Egypt, so we had to take players from South Africa and from Congo,” Renard said. “TP Mazembe has seven players from Zambia so it is easy because they understand each other.

“It was easy for us because we started a long and difficult preparation early, which would not be very easy with players from Europe.”

While he rebelled in the triumph of his local contingent, Renard says he would not be unhappy to see them make the grade to Europe.

“They have the talent and they can do well, but they have to plan their careers because it is not easy for Zambian players when they are alone.”

Keshi, you should learn from the Zambia coach, please don't rely on those stupid premiership players that deceive us with their goals,i will keep on saying this.Look for Nigerian players playing in the local league and African league and the french and Italian league. Please not English league,i dey beg o.

I support you "Anderlecht".A word is enough for the wise. Don't be sturborn Keshi, that was Siasia's greatest undoing. Mind you the Zambian coach has been interviewed by the NFF and he will be standing by to take over your job especially now that he has the credentials.

In my view the best team South Africa can develop and win trophies is the one that drew with Zambia in the friendlies before Afcon. The lads played excellent soccer.

STANCOVIC: 2012-02-13 09:47

And thanks to TP Mazembe's participation in the Champions Leagues. That's what Bafana need, and it can only happen if we see more and more PSL teams taking the Champs League serious. Egypt conquered the continent because Ahl Ahly, Zamalek, etc were consistently taking part and doing well in the Champs League. Similarly, the last time Bafana did well in Africa was when the generation of Mkhalele, Moeti, Khumalo, Fish, Linda, etc all with real Champs League exposure were part of the national team.

Skepe Mketule: 2012-02-13 09:53

Does it mean this TP Mazembe pays better than SAfrican teams or what ?

Yesterday Zambia was a better team and deserved to win the game. You gotta agree, it took a divine intervention from the Zambian team to win this tournament. The spirits of the 1993 was definitively with them.

@STANCOVIC,

Spot on!!! Pirates invested a lot for this Champions League and I hope that they will go all the way and win it. that will benefit Bafana, ofcause if Pitso get fired.

Congratulation to Zambia, Victory well deserve. First, they have to shoot down the black-stars even when they were never any star black in the sky but with their great copper bullet they were able to spot the star anyway and shoot it down. Then proceed to cripple the elephant before gunning it down as well, well-done.

In my opinion i think Kennedy Mweene the Zambian goalkeeper is one of the best in the world, i think if he were from europe, he will be highly priced, also Rainford Kalaba is one of the best midfielder around even though he play for TP Mazambe and that should prove my point. He was able to play against those that plays in the best european leagues and show his class, well-done KALABA. Finally the Zambia due at the central defense are just too good, very steady and i say well-done guys and keep it up, your victory is well deserve.

Pitso said he cant win without strikers. He said he does not have strikers. Give me strikers pleaded Pitso, I only have LiPhela only as a striker. What a hell is he doing then choosing Majoro, Ngcobo and Parker. Nx!!! Pitso must be fired because he wont resign.

Bravo Chipolopolo!! Our spoilt brats (bafana) can learn a thing or two from you guys. With SA, once tournament of this magnitude come, our players put money before the country!! Zambia showed unity as team. No indiduality, team effort is the order of the day! I hope arrongant Pitso who claims to be the "best" and his players with inflated egos can take a leaf out the Chipopolo's success!!!

MOST NIGERIAN ALWAYS WANT PEOPLE TO THINK FOR THEM, WHEN KESHI STARTED WITH HOME BASE EAGLES, HE WAS CALLED SEVERAL NAMES HERE ON THIS FORUM BUT SINCE RENARD COMMENT NOW THE SAME PEOPLE WHO DID NOT SEE ANYTHING GOOD IN WHAT KESHI WAS DOING THEN ARE NOW ASKING FOR HOME BASE, IF TOMORROW ANY THING HAPPENS THEY START CALLING HIM AGAIN NAMES.

MY OPINION IS THAT EVEN AT HOME BASE PLAYERS, I THINK AFRICAN COACHES LACK THE TACTICAL ASPECT OF THE GAME LIKE THE FOREIGN COACHES. LET US NOT DESIVE OURSELF, LET THE NFF EMPLOY A GOOD TECHNICAL DIRECTOR TO ASSIST KESHI AND HELP US IS THIS BUILD UP AND SEE IT THERE WONT BE A GREAT DIFFERENCE.

PLS I AM NOT SAYING THAT KESHI IS NOT GOOD BUT HE STILL NEED TO LEARN ALOT TO BE A PERFECT COACH. GOOD LUCK.

U see what a great team work the zambia`s did to win a cup,all the hope of the world was Ghana and CIV,keshi predition was doom to fail and it did, so is going to be with him in the super eagles cause he knows nothing at all.tomorrow if the coach of zambia said he wants to leave Nigeria will be the first country to run after him cause the want him to perform miracles for those super chickens i will advice him not to go cause that country will disgrace him.up zambia and long live the team.

My request to all SA's who will watch the Psl games this week we need to give the Zambian team representatives a thunderous welcome. Really guys i'm proud of these guys, as they won against all odds. Now that Zambia have won you want to share in their glory just becos one or two playas play for your team, shame on you guys, that's not how it works. Your bafana bafana failed to qualify now you want to steal other poeple's glory. Shame on you.

Jacob/Styles: 2012-02-13 10:44

Do you know tht Renard did not play professional soccer, he only played amateur football with the likes of Deschamps and M****ille? His passion for soccer pushed him to study to become a professional coach, and for that matter he never coached a professional team in the european leagues.

The lesson to draw from his experience is that passion and commitment can take us to greater heights in our careers, and unfortunately that's what we lack in our football in Mzansi. Had it been about the resources and talent SA would be mentioned in the league of Brazil, Spain, Germany etc. If there is no drive and hunger to succeed your qualifications and royal english means nothing South Africa.

Soccer fans just follow the flow. If Zambia lost with local players you would say why why why only local players. The same fans were busy praizing Ivory Coast with their big stars who are playing in Europe, now they are singing local. I think soccer fans are a true case study for stupidity.

ngangezwe: 2012-02-13 11:32

@SAM. TP Mazembe pays far much better than South African clubs and a lot many more clubs in europe. You remember one tresor mputu.****nal thought he was a cheapie from Congo only to realise he earned more than some of their own players. This TP mazembe club(guy) is rich bootie. Hey Folks! He who has ears, let him hear!
The fear of one single Chipolopolo is the beginning of wisdom. See how they Chipolopoloed the Teranga lions into mince meat, Chipolopoloed the Black stars into blank dots before Chipoling the Elephants to their knees. Its amazing what copper bullets could do.
Next time, underrate a copper bullet at your own peril.
Big congratulations to the Zambia team and nation. The souls of their mates in the ill-fated crash of 1993 would be so glad that the unfinished business which claimed their lives have now been completed.
A lot could be learnt from this achievement from, team spirit, attack mindedness, goalkeeping, defence, coaching, discipline, inspiration, underdog status, stamina, courage and belief.

KRISPEN MAROI: 2012-02-13 15:41

@Val, Gbam ! . In as much as I predicted an Ivory Coast win but kudos must go to the 'Chipolopolo' for using their 'copper' bullets to snipe Senegal,Ivory Coast and the other 'parrot team from west Africa'.

Once again, bravo to Zambia.

My 2012 Afcon XI :

(1) Mweene

(2) Gosso Gosso(CIV) (5) Sunzu (ZAM) (6)Bamba (CIV) (3) Tiene (CIV)

(7)Sakni (TUNISIA) (4) Tioti(CIV) (10) Kalaba (ZAM)

(8) Katongo (ZAM) (9) Mayuka (ZAM)

In a nutshell, soccer is a team game and people create their own luck. Zambia created their own luck through discipline, resilience, humility and self belief.

BRAVO ZAMBIA.

What people don't know is that in every football tournament, the team everybody is putting their money on,don't always win the cup,eg,last nations cup everybody is tips Cote divoire and Egypt came to steal the show, now everybody is saying Ghana and Cote divoire and Zambia came to steal the show. In the last world cup, everybody was for Brazil and Argentina and Spain came to steal the show.
Next year nations cup in South Africa, don't go for the team with the biggest name, you maybe surprise that maybe even Togo with no stars can come and win the cup.Now Odegbami tips Ghana for the cup and they were beaten.
We should all take this to reckoning.
