Stevanovic won't quit as Ghana coach

Posted: 2012-02-12 13:39

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic is refusing to stand by his word and resign after the Black Stars poor showing at the 2012 Nations Cup.

The Serbian promised when naming his squad for the tournament in December that he would resign if Ghana did not reach the finals but has done a U-turn and says he would stay on.

“Everything is in the hands of the Ghana Football federation, I have more time [one more year] on my contract,” he told GHANAsoccernet.

“I feel good here and I want to continue here because I think we build one strong team for the future.”

The 45-year old wants an analysis of what went right and wrong and plan for the future based on that.

“To see what is wrong and what is good so we can explain one good way for the future.”

Calls for his removal from ex-players to members of the Black Stars management team have been intense especially after Ghana exited the Nations Cup at the semi-final stage.

This shows this coach is a proper shirker. He was too confident Ghana will wallop every one and take the cup. Sorry boss soccer is never won on paper but on the field. Please keep your word, pack and go back to Serbia.

Do u blame d guy?He only behaved like every other Ghanian who were opening their mouth wide and vomitting whatever rubbish that came out. When blind patriotism didnt let u guys see that d team was substandard, did u want d man to pour sand in his own kenke by telling u d team will not win.Between Ghanians and d coach, who was deceiving who?

TeellThemm: 2012-02-12 17:06

i still dey!: 2012-02-13 01:16

will u guys shut up,i know most of u are nigerians and u r happy Ghana flopped at the afcon but get this straight into ur dumb coconuts we dont care about your thoughts,so keep them to urselves.and why r u even celebrating? afterall the "great" nigeria did not even qualify.
@luise hero, did u attend the same primary school with asamoah gyan, inkoom and co,how come u know they r 40 year olds. i guess ivory coast also have old men in their team thats why they lost to zambia.
maybe u r too blind to face facts, but when its ur turn in life nothing can change it.zambia was outplayed,out-muscled and bullied by Ghana but they got lucky with the goal and so they won. do u remember Ghana vs Nigeria at the last afcon? Ghana were totally outplayed but still won so life is such sometimes.but then again,u guys r nigerians right? its in ur genetic programming to rejoice over other ppls misfortune, even when u r siblings with a different mother or father so i dont blame u. God must be so pissed he crraeted u lot.

i still dey!: 2012-02-13 01:33

Question of the day. Did nigeria qualify? NO! I guess cote d'ivoire also used overage players thats why they lost to zambia in the final.
i like nigerians for one thing, they have this illusion that the world revolves around them.maybe it should, but it is not and the earlier u guys realised or should i say admitted that the better. i guess u guys even thought caf might just cancel the afcon this year beacuse nigeria didn't qualify. Newsflash: the afcon was held and Zambia won.
continue living in ur fantasy world as other countries pass u by in all aspects of life.thinking that rejoicing in other ppls misfortune will help u guys deal with ur own shortcomings, guess what nigeria is still a failed state. ignorance is bliss in naijaland.

Nkata Offor 1 of Igbo land: 2012-02-13 02:01

SACK DIS INDIOT IMMEDIATELY, @i still dey! next time face the one face u, stop calling nigeria name, no body coursed ur misfortune, it is ur coaches and abedi pele's family's course. firstly they propoganda against Stephen Appiah and sack him to get ayew no 10 jercy, and they sack Layea Kingston who pace in 7 roll, Edusape, Mathew Amoah, Richards Kingston, Essein, Kevin prince Boateng cos of ur bad mouth etc, today ur play is zero, no team work, no pace, abedi children just to play on their own, DID U SEE ANYONE PASS BALL TO ASOMOAH GYAN FOR ONCE? fools, na Nigeria for pass ball to your top 9? untill that of abedi leave black star nothing works out. watch Ghana 2006,2008 and see the different. MUGU.

@ I still Dey! Why can't you guys justleave Naija alone. You guys can't understand why Naija will continue to reign supreme over you guys. Naija was'nt the cause of your misrable failure at the afcon. Your loud mouthed country men made a mince meat of the SE when they failed to qualify but Almighty Zambia helped us shut your kenke mouth up. So he who laughs last they say laugh best.So why the grieviance here. We beat the same Zambia just before the start of the afcon, check your records. So, what makes the "Blank stars or Black pots" special over the SE? Please, tell me am all ears.To think of it, you guys will have to wait for another 10 - 15 years before lifting the afcon again.

TeellThemm: 2012-02-13 10:24

@i still dey
Your post speak much of all you guys sycophants attitude towards issues, You only see 9jas comment but fail to read and remember the rubbish your FA chairman and your Mr. Editor Micheal Oti Adjei was vomiting. I am not surprise though because that they way you guys are. You will claim to love others but actually you are the one hating. Nigeria didn't qualify for this tournament, that is true but it was Ghana who were making news of it, with your press, FA chairman and fans like you.

Ken: 2012-02-13 14:13

looks like our Nigerian brothers are taking delight in the plight of the Ghanaian team. That is ok. it is well expected and I am not the least surprised at all.
Back to the issue plavi has lost 2 competitive games since he took over. his only other defeat was to Brazil where the Stars did really well. He should continue, even though the FA must make sure he stays in Ghana to monitor the GLO league. The technical and black stars committee must be reconstituted as well cos there were some "insufficiencies" with some of the players selected. The players must pick up and start focusing on the future. It is a lesson well learnt...Over-confidence kills....take heed.
Congrats to Zambia. I thank God a new winner has been found. THis is God's wondrous and glorious doing , making Zambia the African Champs in 2012 in Gabon as a fitting tribute to the 18 players who perished in 1993.

My brothers and sisters, I love this post from my Naija brother..here it goes, can't get any better than this
"Bros, make we take am easy, Ghanians dey mourn this moment, no one fit write rubbish again IN this site, keshi do this, Amokachi do that, Odewingi talk these, now real tournament cup winning soccer came, blackstars started like, ashanti Kotoko or a crying women who just lost thier husband. Please rest, my man Muntari, Mensah before they spoil their football record. LEARN HOW TO CLOSE YOUR MOUTH IF GOD START BLESSING YOU PEOPLE AS A NATION OK. Na advice oooo"

zambia1: 2012-02-14 21:13

Ghana, hands off Renard, don't even think about it. He is now Zambian, He will give citizenship and land to build whatever he wants. Thats how we say thank you to our French connection.

zambia1: 2012-02-14 21:33

@ Ken,
My brother Ken, good words of wisdom there. You said "black stars committee must be reconstituted as well cos there were some "insufficiencies" with some of the players selected" Insuffiencies? Thats what happens when the FA tries to choose the players for the coach. LEAVE THE COACH TO DECIDE WHO IS IN HIS PLAN. Is that hard to do? Renard left Angola because of that and he came back to mother Zambia where he had the luxury of of making his choices based on fitness. He dropped Nyirenda, left Singulama, Kola, Fwayo Tembo, all because they were not upto the task, He the drafted under 20s in Nathan Sinkala,Evans Kangwa and a Rusian division two player in Chisamba Lungu, so my advice is lets learn from that and have the coach do his JOB.
