With the January transfer window closing on Tuesday, clubs are racing against time to bolster their ranks ahead of the resumption of the League.
Orlando Pirates – who have been one of the most active clubs on the transfer market – are likely to snap up more players as they look to retain the League title as well as mount a strong challenge in the 2012 African Champions League.
After signing Portuguese international Luis Boa Morte, Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza has promised that "another big fish" would join the Sea Robbers.
Khoza's statements come at a time when fromer Arsenal player Freddie Ljungberg is being linked with a possible move to either Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs.
The Bucs are also after SuperSport United's Thandani Ntshumayelo, who is said to be involved in a swap deal that will see Sameehg Doutie moving to Matsatsantsa.
According to player agent Tim Sukazi the deal "is in its final stages" and could be completed on Monday.
Moroka Swallows captain Lefa Tstsulupa is likely to be offered a three-year deal as the club is eager to retain the services of one of their key players.
Both parties have agreed to a deal, with only a few minor outstanding issues standing in the way.
"The deal is 90 percent complete and Lefa will be staying with Swallows," says player agent Xolani Nhleko of Prosport International.
Talented Wits midfielder Sfiso Myeni has three clubs – Pirates, Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns – chasing after his signature and is likely to conclude a deal on Monday after publicly announcing his desire to move to another club.
Meanwhile, Free State Stars coach Steve Komphela – who has ruled out signing any new players during the January window – is scoffing at numerous reports linking him with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
"That is an old issue and I am tired of commenting," Komphela tells KickOff.com.
"I have indicated that I will remain at Free State Stars but people are still speculating," he adds.
