Safa Manco awaits additional info on Afcon qualifying

Safa Manco awaits additional info

Posted: 2011-10-14 14:15

Safa's Management Committee (Manco) met today to discuss various reports on issues pertaining to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying debacle.

Having received the reports, the Manco has requested for additional information in order to make its final determination.

On receipt of this information, the Manco will reconvene in the shortest possible time to conclude the matter.

Until this is finalised, the committee say they will not engage the media further.

It is understood that today's meeting was called to deal with Bafana Bafana's failure to qualify for Afcon.

It was also speculated that on the agenda was Egypt's withdrawal from hosting the inaugural African Under-23 Championships, which serves as the final 2012 London Olympics qualifying event.

Egypt informed the Confederation of African Football early this week that they were withdrawing from hosting the tournament owing to security reasons after an instruction from their military government, and there was speculation South Africa would host the tournament.

But CAF yesterday handed the hosting rights to Morocco.

Look People will always have their views towards others and one incident cannot make the SAFA Leadership to be in tatters we are speaking about the ASsociation which have made a profit of R58 Million, Banyana Banyana qualifying for the Olympics and Bafana topping Group G and out on a technicality we really should not be a blamming society and participate in football development instead of blamming people.

Zimbuzi ezi uzijongile nje. Why can't they be all fired? The signs were there the day SUFFER recycled a failure like Peterson as CEO.

Nipsy: 2011-10-14 16:01

@Tebogo,

Give others a chance and you will see that we can make more and achieve more. With resources SAFA has we just need good leadership (Nematandani does not come to my mind) then this association will be world class.

Nematandana is such a useless person. How can SAF appoint him as our CEO. He failed to manage a small organization of refeeres back then. how can he Manage such a big orgarnization.

TEBOGO: 2011-10-15 13:10

@NIPSY WELL as far as leadership is concern who comes to your mind? we will always differ when it comes to leadership preferences and I am saying that when this guy took over no one gave him a chence due to the ill deceived perception that he is not a mafia look many things have been said about him to the extend that we Judged him before we can even get to know him. It will be fair to judge him after his term.mthistar123 being an African child and being taught to respect I find your comments degrading and anyway who said your useful? my philosophy in life is that every person is importatant. My clarion call is for all of us to start doing something instead of us taking careers in complaining. what are we doing for football?this must be a question we all ask ourselves. we have been calling for the employment of a new coach and SAFA do exactly that and we are still complaining. I will give both Kirsten Nematandani and Robin Petersen my unconditional support and only gauge their contribution after their terms in office.

Tebbza, let me echo your sentiments and agree with you on facts and divorce myself from persimism and cancerous naivity, and negativity without cause. I have read the CAF articles 14.1 and UEFA 7.2-6 and they are exactly the same but application in our case has differed with the UEFA interpretation and the general and traditional log standing. SAFA then showed good leadership to fight this evil of hatred. Kirsten and co. have done very since taking over.for everyone who cares should check what they have done factually and stop being the devil advocate and criticize everything that moves. Pitso has to go as per mandate as ciaching is dull, and selection for players was very questionable, the least said about his substitutions the better. the use of off-form players like Mphela and Teko. The continous ignorance of Nomvete's form, may also have denied entry into AFCON. I am greater supporter of Bra Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba's coaching and philosophies. Let us be good patriots.

Honestly, SAFA really is a bit embarassing but you have to say the same about those South African media that reported that South Africa had qualified...In fact, there is way too little in terms of statistics going on in South African soccer. I remember qualification stages when South Africa was pretty much eliminated cause they had to score about 10 goals to manage first spot in the qualifying log and still media kept saying, "South Africa still has an outside chance to qualify"...I mean you have to be honest to the people...at that stage, South Africa is out...there's no way to qualify. In fact, I honestly thought South Africa was out the moment they lost to Niger. How can you lose against a team that has never ever been at the forefront of African soccer...that's like Germany losing against Montenegro or England losing against Lithuania. Let's face it...the qualifying campaign was more or less over when South Africa lost against Niger. You can't lose a game like that and if you do, then you're just not good enough. Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little bit of bribery going on in the Niger vs Egypt game...too many games in Africa have been filled with controversy, even in junior ranks. Too many penalty knock-outs have had crucial penalties retaken which totally changed the outcome. And if you take a look at the whole CAF qualifying license saga, I'm referring to the fact that the son of the CAF president is apparently involved in the french TV rights company which charges the SABC 5 million Rand per game, then you almost have to be certain that bribery and corruption is flowing in every direction. I used to love supporting South Africa but I fear that African football is slowly but surely taking a turn for the worse, let alone South Africa's ability to just win games convincingly and thereby avoid all this nonesense about calculating who is first in the group. If you're not first in the group, then part of the blame has to go to your side.
