Drogba and Elephants for Accra

Didier Drogba and Ivory Coasts's fine array of stars will head to Accra this week after their Nations Cup qualifier against Benin was confirmed for the Ghanaian capital.

The political turmoil in Abidjan and beyond has rendered Ghana's western neighbours unsafe for football and the Ivorians have now been forced to move the game

”We thought we could host the match in Abidjan even after Fifa’s pressure to move it from here,” Jacques Anoma, Ivorian Football Federation president says.

“But the situation on the ground and lack of a security guarantee from the government led us – we and CAF – to decide on relocation to nearby Accra, Ghana.

“The players will be in Accra from Tuesday, March 21. They will do a few days of preparation and will play this match that is very crucial for Ivory Coast,” he adds.
