Motaung slams CAF over Togo ban

Motaung slams CAF over Togo ban

Posted: 2010-02-06 08:25

Kaizer Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung has joined a number of African VIPs that have criticised CAF for their decision to ban to Togo from participating in the next two Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The Togolese team was forced to withdraw from the recent tournament in Angola after their team bus was ambushed by terrorists near Cabinda. Three team officials were killed in the armed attack.

In his weekly column on the Amakhosi website, Motaung termed the treatment meted out by CAF as ‘cruel’ and said it was a display of arrogance by the controlling African football body.

“The treatment meted out to Togo by the insensitive and cruel Confederation of African Football is indeed a lamentable exposé of the organisation,” Motaung said.

“While a lot of condemnation has been expressed on the callousness of the attackers, we should not look any further but question the judgment of the CAF immediately after the drama and their subsequent two-year suspension of the Togolese nation from continental competition.

“In tapping my African roots, failure to grant Togo an opportunity to mourn its deceased and the insistence that it honour the competition while reeling from the shock was serious display of arrogance.”

I agree with this man for a change. The ban was very hard to swallow. Where is the spirit of Ubuntu-butho? How were the guys expected to perform after this horrific experience!!

I think media and people from all circles struck the nail on the head. Whoever participated in making this decission need to undergo the test for use of substance. You can not expect the traumatised players to have continued with their fixtures immediately after the incidents. These are no claims if people were slain on the attack and some injured. The decision by useless Issa is cold blooded, maybe it's about time he steps down and let new brooms take over the office.

It`s high time Hayatou left CAF.He`s past his prime. He simply lacks the needed ideas to make decisions that matter,at a crucial time like this.Which donkey would have expected the Togo national team 2 participate after that horrific rebel ambush? Just Issa Hayatou!

How can CAF be so cruel, insensitive and unreasonable? The victim turns villian! Togo deserve an apology, not sanctions. Please CAF, reverse this decision as you prepare to resign.
