Hans Sarpei's ambitions to gain back the left back role in the Black Stars has taken a dent after being sidelined in training by a groin injury.
The Bayer Leverkusen defender who was first choice left back for Ghana at the last Nations Cup picked up the injury in test matches on Friday.
He has subsequently watched the sessions from the bench and Milovan Rajevac admitted the defender may not make it for the opening game against Togo.
“Sarpei got injured during a practice match. It is difficult to say how long he is out for but the medical team are doing their best and we hope he will recover before or after the opening game,” Rajevac said.
The injury to the experienced campaigner will add to Ghana's woes for that position but Rajevac has been experimenting with utility player Rahim Ayew and Agyemang Badu in that position.
Anthony Annan has also been a major injury doubt having done very little training with the squad since they arrived here.
Rajevac said: “Annan came with a hamstring injury which we knew about and he is recovering well with our special program. We hope he is going to be ready for the competition.”
Ghana's medical team are also convinced the Rosenbord player who has made the defensive midfield holding role his own will be in good health for the tournament.
