Injured Yobo to miss Europa game

Injured Yobo to miss Europa game

Posted: 2009-12-01 12:30

Shuaibu Amodu's injury headaches continue to pile up ahead of preparations for next year's Africa Cup of Nations, with defensive stalwart Joseph Yobo the latest to pick up a knock.

Yobo failed to travel with the Everton squad for Wednesday's Europa League game against AEK Athens on Wednesday after he picked up a hamstring injury that led to his late substitution in the 2-0 derby defeat to Liverpool.

That brings to four, the number of players Amodu will have to do without for the next couple of weeks at least, as he prepares to name his squad for the Nations Cup training camp in Namibia.

Out of reckoning is Ike Uche, who is recovering from a long term ACL injury. Midfielder Seyi Olofinjana has been ruled out for a month, while forward Obafemi Martins will also be unavailable for the same period as he is set to undergo surgery this week.

Two Nigerians have travelled with Everton though, Yakubu Ayegbeni and youngster Hope Akpan, as Victor Anichebe continues to recuperate from a broken leg.

I pray for your speedy recovery brother! Yobo is still good of course like all of us is not getting any younger hence we need a younger defender from olympics Eagles who can eventually take over from him.

In my humble opinion, I would test a younger defender in the back of Yobo and let Yobo play a defending midfield. I think the wear and tears of EPL is taking his toll on our darling Joeseph howver we need his experience in both upcoming tournaments.

Odense moved four points clear of Copenhagen at the top of the SAS-Ligaen with a hard-fought victory over a ten-man Koge on Monday night.

The visitors played the last 43 minutes with ten after the dismissal of Thomas Christensen, but it was not until the seven minutes from time that Peter Utaka broke the deadlock with the only goal of the game.

It still marvels me What enaramo and co are doing in Eagles. This is the hottest striker in Eagles at present. 13goals to his credit. If martins is down and IK uche is down. we are finished. Yakubu is not the messiah, that dude is not world class. Amodu should open doors for quick thinking strikers not **** and shoot types. Carlton cole is idle, peter utaka is idle, ike thankgod is idle, even dennis aogo is idle too. these dudes are nigerians. make we no dey look @ the 11 players in the field. The bench is more important than the 11 in the field. Onigbinde should tell u better. it happened to him in 2002 when kanu was injured against Argies. a word is too much for the wise.

i rest my case

DEFENders:
IKE THANKGOD, SUNDAY OLOWO (both of Heartland), Uga OKPARA (Enyimba or so....), SEYI OGUNSANYA (3sc or Gateway), ABDULWASIU SOWEMIMO (Pillars), CHIBUZOR OKONKWO, SURAJ SADIQ
MIDFIELDERS:
OBIORA N****WO(Wikki), iKECHUKWU IBENEGBU, UCHE AGBA( both of Heartland), KADIRI (wears no 6 jersey for Bayelsa utd), RAMON AZEEZ AND ADBUL AJAGUN (from u17)
FORWARDS:
STANLEY OKORO, OSANGA KING(both of heartland) AKARANDUT OKON (last season"s highest goal scorer with 16 goals--- he sure must be very good to have been able to score 16 in the Nigerian league)
I can bet if given a fair chance and with a neutral coach or team selector, 80% of the afore mentioned can make the team to angola

@ Mike:
U r right my bro
Its just that amodu prefers estacodes to monitor bench warmers in europe rather than crisscrossing the local league venues to monitor the good ones amongst them

Just want to get ahead of KON because they will soon copy a stale news over here s if it's new, Read:

Roberto Mancini might be heading to World Cup 2010 as coach of Nigeria according to the latest reports in Italy.

Sky Sport Italia claim the former Inter coach has been contacted by the Nigerian Football Association and they have offered him the job. The report claims the Super Eagles are keen to have 'Mancio' lead them out in South Africa.

It is said the lure of the World Cup scenario could tempt Mancini into accepting the offer, meaning there will be three Italian coaches at the tournament, Marcello Lippi with Italy, and Fabio Capello on the England bench.

The Jesi-born tactician has also been linked with Real Madrid, Manchester City, Russia and Notts County.

Despite the report, Mancini has not added any substance to it just yet.

listen do you idiots honestly beleive that medeoca npl players are the answer, if u think players from the nigerian football league can handle the likes of drogba or eto'o for that matter then think again, this is not childsplay this is the real deal we have the CAN2010 and WORLD CUP 2010 coming up there's no time for weak players who can't even make it to europe to compete agaisnt the best.If u ask amodu is also a poor coach beacause he should be trying to persuade chinedum(nedum)onouah to play for nigeria before it's to late cause if anyone can replace yobo if need be it's onouah i know he's a bit misguided as to were his loyalty should be but as long as he has not played senior international match for england which he hasn't he is still eligable to play for nigeria.so please give us a break. Nigeria needs to compete so we need our best talent on show not players who can't make it to the toughest leagues in the world. catch a wake up festus.Just to add Raibu Ibrahim needs a national team call up.

It's unfortunate that you guys toil with the truth. I wish you would learn to call a spade a spade and a hoe or even a shovel. I have been fortunate enough to watch Yobo almost each time Everton is playing, and each time, i am left asking myself, how on earth did this guy make the line-up? And here you guys are talking as if he is a super duper defender that Nigeria desperately need. Pls. be kind enough to love Nigeria a little else don,t be this cruel go Nigeria and Nigerians by painting disaster as our very best. He never and still have nothing to offer Nigeria. There is no more west to cover him up. I have nothing personal in this but just saying it as it really is.

Francis: 2009-12-08 15:02

Why using Olofinjana continously in our national team?He has nothing to offer in the midfield. Please Amodu, give the likes of Ayila,Kaita,Etuhu, etc more playing time. Please, let us work on merit or else,we will a disastrous outing at the nations and world cup. Thanks
Francis
