Maximiliano Pereira had a successful spell at Defensor between 2002 and 2007, making over 100 appearances, before Portuguese club Benfica saw his talent and signed him.
He has cemented his place in the Benfica side and has played over 70 games.
Pereira made his international debut in 2005 and was also picked for Uruguay's 2007 Copa America campaign.
