Diego Pérez signed his first professional contract at Defensor Sporting in 1999 and played just shy of 100 games for the club before Penarol signed him in 2003.
The defensive midfielder only spent one season at Penarol before French club AS Monaco, where he has played over 100 games, acquired his services in 2004.
Pérez is an experienced campaigner for Uruguay having made his debut in 2001 and going on to become a first-team regular.
