22 Benny Feilhaber
Benny Feilhaber was born in Brazil but moved to America at the age of six, and in 2003 he began playing football at the youth level with UCLA Bruins and then Hamburg FC, and he eventually broke into the latter’s first-team in 2005.
However, after just nine appearances in two seasons he joined English club Derby County, but again he failed to make an impact, this time moving on to Danish Superliga outfit AGF Aarhus.
Feilhaber was twice called up to the USA national team, in 2005 and again in 2006, but both times he failed to take to the pitch and would have to wait until 25 March 2007 to pick up his first international cap, playing in the friendly against Ecuador.
He was also part of the 2008 Olympic team, appearing as a substitute in all three matches. He then had to wait almost a year later for his next international match, playing at the 2009 Confederations Cup, helping the team reach the final against Brazil.
