DeMerit began playing professional football with Chicago Fire in 2001 and has also played for Southall and Northwood, but in 2004 signed a permanent deal with Watford.
He picked up his first international cape in March 2007 in a friendly against Guatemala and was also part of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup-winning squad. At the 2009 Confederations Cup the center-back was given his chance to impress following an injury to Carlos Bocanegra, and played the full 90 minutes of the USA’s 2-0 semi-final victory over Spain.
