8 Clint Dempsey
Clint Dempsey began playing football at the Dallas Texans and Furman Paladins youth academies, but made the step up to the professional level with New England in 2004. After three seasons with the MLS club, which included 71 appearances and 25 goals, the playmaker made his move to Premier League outfit Fulham, where he has since established himself as a fan-favourite at Craven Cottage.
Dempsey’s first taste of international action with the United States came at the 2003 World Youth Championship, and just one year later he picked up his first full international cap against Jamaica. He was also part of the CONCACAF Gold Cup-winning teams in 2005 and 2007, and also helped the team to second place in the 2009 Confederations Cup.
