Miguel's career kicked off at Estrela Amadora in 1998, but he soon moved to Benfica where he played over 100 games before joining Spanish side Valencia in 2005.
The full-back has played in all the major tournaments for Portugal since making his debut in 2003, but has played second fiddle to Jose Bosingwa in recent times.
