Raul Meireles first made an impression on the football stage in 2004 with Boavista, catching the attention of FC Porto who bought him at the end of the season.
He has since been a regular starter in the Porto outfit and has racked up over 100 caps at the Portuguese giants.
The midfielder made his international debut in 2006 and was part of the Portugal squad for Euro 2008, scoring in his nation’s opening game of the tournament against Turkey.
He also played a vital role in the national side's 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
Meireles is know for his long-range passing ability and his tendency to shoot from range.
