Blackburn's star striker began his career with local side Olimpia Asuncion, and made his debut for the first team at the tender age of 16. His star continued to shine in his home country, culminating in the powerful attacker winning the Paraguayan Football of the Year award in 1999. His performances for both club and country caught the eye of European giants Bayern Munich who snapped up the starlet in 1999.

At Blackburn Rovers, his consistency in front of goal quickly saw him become a fan favourite, but his success also prompted rumours about a potential move. In the summer of 2009 he completed a GBP 17 million move to big-spending Manchester City, reuniting him with his former Rovers manager Mark Hughes.

Unsurprisingly, he is the star of the Paraguayan national side and has amassed over 60 caps. He was one of Paraguay’s top scorers in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
