John Heitinga was brought through the Ajax Amsterdam youth system and made his debut for the club in 2001, spending eight years there before a move to La Liga with Atletico Madrid.
A rather uneventful spell at the Vicente Calderon prompted a switch to the English Premiership with Everton, who he joined in 2009 for €7million.
Heitinga represented the Dutch youth teams early in his career before making his senior debut in 2004. He was first-choice rightback at the European Championships that same year, and also played at the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2008.
