Dos Santos is the son of Brazilian footballer Gerardo dos Santos, better known as Zizinho, who was a star in 1950 with the Brazil national side. Having started his career as a youth at Monterrey in Mexico he was signed by Barcelona in 2002 at the age of 13. After 28 senior appearances for the Spanish giants, Dos Santos completed a move to Tottenham on 10 June 2008.
Despite his young age the Mexican has already been capped at full international level under Sven Goran Eriksson. The 2009 season has seen him loaned out to Roy Keane’s Championship outfit, Ipswich Town.
