The Son of Cha Bum-Kun who is widely considered Korea's greatest football player, Cha has played for several top Bundesliga clubs including Arminia Bielefeld and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Cha was first noticed by Guus Hiddink while still playing amateur football. He was selected for the Korean national team before going professional, and helped South Korea advance to the semi-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Cha has scored four goals in 43 appearances for the national team.
