Yuki Abe first began playing football with JEF United Ichihara Chiba as a youth player in 1994, and after four years he made the move to the professional level, breaking into the first team.

After eight seasons, including 214 matches and 36 goals, the midfielder joined Urawa Red Diamonds, and he has since made 100 apperances for the club, helping them to the 2007 AFC Champions League title.

Abe began playing international football for the Japan Under-20 team in 2000 and the Under-23s in 2002, and in January 2005 he made his senior debut, coming on in the friendly against Kazakhstan.

He was part of the 2007 AFC Asian Cup qualifying team, but was left out of the 2006 World Cup squad. He also played seven of Japan’s 2010 World Cup qualifying matches, starting six of those.
