17 Makoto Hasebe
Makoto Hasebe came up through the Fujieda Higashi High School football academy before signing a professional contract with Urawa Red Diamonds in 2002. After two seasons, which saw him chalk up 149 apperances as well as making the J-League Team of the Year, he joined Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, where he has since played over 60 matches.
In 2006 Hasebe was called up to the Japan national team, making his debut against the USA in a friendly San Francisco. He was also part of the 2007 AFC Asian Cup qualification team, and also started nine matches of his country’s 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign.
