1 Gianluigi Buffon
Gianluigi Buffon, considered by many to be one of the greatest goalkeepers in recent history, played out his youth career at Parma before joining the senior side there in 1995.
In 2001 he signed with Juventus. He has been named the Serie A goalkeeper of the year for a record of nine times.
Buffon made his international debut at the age of 19 as an injury replacement during a 1998 World Cup qualifier.
He produced a magnificent run of five clean sheets during the 2006 World Cup finals, the tournament which Italy won.
He was named Italy captain during Euro 2008 after Fabio Cannavaro was ruled out due to injury.
Buffon has been widely linked with English club Arsenal in recent times, and could well make a move away from Italian football for the first time in his illustrious 15-year career.
