Andrea Pirlo started his professional career at his home-town club of Brescia where he made 47 appearances between 1994 and 1998. He moved on to Serie A giants Inter Milan in '98, but only made 22 appearances before being loaned out to Reggina.

He joined his current club AC Milan in 2001 and enjoyed much success with the Rossonerri, winning one Scudetto, two Champions League titles, an Italian Cup and two UEFA Super Cups.

He is a deep-lying playmaker and is famed for his passing abilities and precision free-kicks.

On the International stage Pirlo played for Italy's Under-21 side for four years, captaining the side to the Under-21 European Championship in 2000, before breaking into the senior squad in 2002.

Pirlo's biggest achievement came at the 2006 World Cup where he played an influential role in the midfield as the Azzurri claimed their fourth World Cup title by beating France 5-3 on penalties in the final.
