The Polish-born striker began playing professional football in 1998 for FC Homburg, and has since played for FC Kaiserslautern and Werder Bremen, scoring a total of 133 goals over nine seasons.

In 2007 Klose made his move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, and helped them win the League in his first season.

In January 2001 the then national coach of Germany, Jerzy Engel, travelled to Poland to try and persuade the forward to play for his side, and although he initially declined the invitation, Klose eventually decided to take up the offer and made his Germany debut two months later against Albania, coming on as a substitute to score the winning goal.

He has since gone on to help the team to the 2002 World Cup Final, where they lost to Brazil, as well as third place in the 2006 showpiece and runners-up at Euro 2008.
