23 Mario Gómez
Mario Gomez began his professional career in 2003 with Stuttgart II before moving up to the first-team two years later, and he was quickly snapped up by Bayern Munich, who agreed a Bundesliga record fee of around €35-million.
In 2005 he received a call-up to the Germany Under-21 side, and quickly progressed to the Germany B, finally the senior team in 2007, marking his debut with the second goal in the 3-1 win over Switzerland.
Highly-tipped as one of Europe’s hottest prospects, Gomez picked up the 2007 German Footballer of the Year Award, a trophy he added to his 2003 German Youth Championship and 2006/07 Bundesliga titles.
