Friedrich has played for Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin since 2002.
He is known for being a very reliable defender with the ability to cause problems on the attack, being one of the fastest defenders in the league.
He has appeared for the German national side since 2002 and played his part in the 2006 World Cup where Germany finished third. He was also part of the squad for the Euro 2008 competition.
