21 Nicolas Anelka
Nicolas Anelka began his career at Paris Saint-Germain, where he was already tipped as a great striker with superb goalscoring ability.
He has enjoyed spells at numerous top clubs, including Arsenal, Real Madrid, back at PSG, Liverpool, Manchester City and Fenebahce.
In 2008 he joined Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers for £15 million, with his cumulative transfers making him the most costly player in football history. This was surpassed when Cristiano Ronaldo joined Real Madrid at the start of 2009/10.
Anelka has played for the French national squad since 1998. He was left out of the World Cup squad in 2006, as he wasn't playing a huge amount of first-team football at the time, but France greatly depended on him in their 2010 World Cup first-leg play-off against the Republic of Ireland, a game in which he scored the crucial away goal.
