Arriving in the English game in 1998 from Danish side Odense Boldklub, Sorensen enjoyed a successful five-year spell with Sunderland before moving to Aston Villa in 2003. At Villa the goalkeeper made 139 league appearances before being ousted from the number one jersey by first Scott Carson then Brad Friedel, encouraging him to make a switch to Stoke in the summer of 2008.

Since then he has established himself as the Potters' first-choice keeper ahead of Simon Simonsen, making his debut in a 3-1 defeat to Bolton. Sorensen became the Danish number one goalkeeper following the retirement of Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel and has since earned over 75 caps for his country.
