Geremi started his career with Racing Bafoussam, Cerro Porteno and Genclerbiriligi but in 1999 made his break into European football signing for Real Madrid.

Whilst there he played 45 league games for the Galacticos in three years, but failed to score. He was later loaned to Middlesbrough for the 2002/03 season, where he became a steadfast favourite, picking up the club's Player of the Year award in 2003. That same year, Chelsea made a GBP 6 million bid for the him and he moved to Stamford Bridge.

A dead ball specialist, he showed his versatility by deputising for the injured Paulo Ferreira at right back at Stamford Bridge. He stayed in London from 2003 to 2007, scoring four goals in the 72 league matches he played for the Blues before joining the Magpies in 2007. The midfielder was a popular choice at St James' Park and was also briefly made captain under Sam Allardyce.

On 31 January 2010 Geremi's transfer to Ankaragücü of the Süper Lig was announced; he signed a 1½ year contract with the Turkish club.

Geremi made his debut for Cameroon in 1996 and has since played regularly for his country. He won gold with his country at the 2000 Olympics, as well as the 2000 and 2002 Africa Cup of Nations titles.
