Luke Wilkshire played in his youth for several Australian clubs before moving to Middlesbrough in 1998. He began his professional career at Boro in 2000 and joined Bristol City in 2003. FC Twente signed him in 2006 and two years later he joined Dynamo Moscow.

Wilkshire represented Australia on a youth level from 2001-2004. He was selected in his country's national team for the 2006 World Cup and he scored his first international goal in 14 November 2009 against Oman. He plays regularly as a centre-midfielder but can also be used on the right side of defence.
