7 Brett Emerton
Emerton joined Blackburn in 2003 after his impressive form for both club and country had attracted the attention of a number of Europe's big clubs. A product of the Australian Institute of Soccer, he moved from Sydney Olympic to Dutch side Feyenoord in 2000 and was immediately instrumental in the Dutch side's victorious 2001/01 UEFA Cup campaign, although he missed the final through suspension.
In the summer of 2008, he signed a new four-year deal at Ewood Park but in January 2009, he suffered serious cruciate ligament damage in a game against Middlesbrough which saw him miss the remainder of the season. He made his return to the pitch in September 2009.
Emerton, who is comfortable in both midfield and defence, was named Oceania Footballer of the Year in 2002 and lined out for the Socceroos at the 2006 World Cup finals. He scored two goals during the fourth match in his country's qualification for the 2010 World Cup.
