Lounès Gaouaoui spent the majority of his career at JS Kabylie, playing over 150 games for the club. He was also part of the JSK sides which won the Algerian league in 2004 and 2006, and the CAF Cup in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

The goalkeeper made his international debut in 2001 and was in the Algeria side which reached the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations in 2004.
