Pitso Mosimane: Win at all costs

Mosimane: Win at all costs

Posted: 2010-09-02 09:48

"It is crucial we win the game at all costs," confirms South Africa's national coach Pitso Mosimane ahead of his first real test when Bafana Bafana take on Niger in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday night.

The match will take place the majestic Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, with kick-off scheduled for 20h30.

 Following Bafana's inability to qualify for the 2010 Afcon event and the fact that they were ousted in the group stages of the 2010 Fifa World Cup earlier this year, Mosimane knows it is of vital importance that he gets off to a good start after taking over the reins from former coach Carlos Alberto Parreira.

The outcome of the game against Niger could well shape his tenure in charge of Bafana and he is fully aware of that: "We have to make sure we get the three points. We can't afford not to qualify for the African Cup of Nations again. It is unacceptable."

Mosimane's first official game in charge went off quite well and saw his side beat World Cup quarterfinalists Ghana 1-0 last month. Still, the coach feels his side can improve on that performance and they will have to as they are not completely aware of what they are up against in the form of Niger.

"We are looking to continue where we left off, but we can't be complacent. We need to prepare properly and professionally in a disciplined environment for the game against Niger, and that is exactly what we are doing," added Mosimane.

Mosimane, focusing on the game against the West African minnows, feels his side can still improve and hopes Niger don't play negatively.

"We have to sharpen our sword. Against Ghana, a lot of the final passes went astray. We need to take our chances in front of goal. I just hope Niger don't play negatively and try defend the whole match."

Looking ahead to the rest of South Africa's 2012 ACN qualifying matches in Group G, Mosimane feels the World Cup experience will help Bafana in a tough qualifying group that includes African champions Egypt and Sierra Leone.

"We have learnt a lot from the World Cup and we will use it to our advantage. We have the players to qualify for 2012," concluded the Bafana coach.

I wish bafana bafana to loose. Just because kaizer Chiefs hijacked Bafana Bafana, there is no need for me to support bafana bafana, shapa Niger shapaaa!!! wish you all the best.

*** whether they play negatively or not, it's non of your business. focus on your ship. dont coach other teams.

Busani: 2010-09-02 10:09

I see us winning agains the small time countries, kodwa ngiyibekile i-Egypt... even if we qualify, when we get to a big time tournament we will loose, simple.

Pitso is busy with PR, instead of maning up his ladies.

Niger the country was swept and is continuing being swept by floods, so the win might be easy as these guys are going through a catastrophe back home.

Soccer Critic ( Tivani ): 2010-09-02 10:17

Loose at all cost

KaMashobana: 2010-09-02 10:28

Pitso what kind of the green weed do you smoke? Is it the import from Moza? Firstly, the only thing that you know about Niger is that there are a closed book. Secondly you want them to play the way you want. There are here to to compete bra.....if it means camping in their 18 yard to avoid conceading....so be it. There is nothing called negative football.

Tivani: Hehehehehehehehehehe

KuMasawana, the statement above means that Pitso want Niger to play the way he want? Some people are "thinking midgets" period.

Anyway Good Luck Bafana Bafana...win so that this foreighners critising Pitso must go back to their land with tails between their legs.

Champ "Superbrand": 2010-09-02 11:01

Its an easy one, we expect a convincing win. Not just 2-0. We know that these African teams with the help of referees and intemidation of visitors can achieve shocking results at home like Sierra Leone did to Bafana last time.

@teko modise aka tivani ,pitso knows wat he is doing ,pienaar is better than u tivani! None of pie city players selected will play! So take it eaaaaazy dude

Champ "Superbrand": 2010-09-02 11:05

@Soccer Critic ( Tivani ),

Spot on!!! in this game there is no need to use two defensive midfielders. Niger will be employing defence tactics with the hope of catching us on counter. We can score more goals by going all out on attack and pressurise the whole game. Goals count in this group qualifiers.

Wonder: 2010-09-02 11:10

Just go out and give 100% and the win will come. but how you live out a player like Pattison still baffles me, and by the way, even if you can insult the Golden Arrows coach, truth of the matter is that he is telling the truth, Sangweni doesn't not deserve to be there. As for Ngcobo, the less said the better, but having said that, i'm behind the team 120% behind the team and the boys selected,, do us proud...!!!

Champ "Superbrand": 2010-09-02 11:12

@mash-do,

Whether Pirates players will play or not, we just want a convincing win. This is not about Orlando Pirates or Teko Modise or your Kaizer Chiefs, its about the country. Truth be told, in this game we need Teko as an attacking middlefield.

We don't care whether Pitso can select all your diChipz players to play in that game but the fact is your team will never get credit if they win. All we know and will remember is Bafana Bafana will be playing, nobody will remember who was playing.

wandy : 2010-09-02 11:39

y is matty pattison overlooked frm d squad? Is it bcz he's white?

Champ "Superbrand": 2010-09-02 12:14

@Mopheme...: ,

In fact most of these Kaizer Chiefs supporters are dom kop. They criticise Jele's inclusion and are silent about Sthembiso's inclusion. But Jele have been playing very well for Pirates. He played most of the games 90min last season and only missed the MTN8 due to suspension. Was Thembiso selected to play, see how dom kop these Kaizer chiefs supporters are. There was a time Siphiwe was not getting game time in the squad or played as sub, we did not say he is finished, he must never be played and all that nonsence that they post here.

Mayambela2: 2010-09-02 12:50

there is no where in this article where Pitso said anything about chiefs, pirates, ssu or any team of that matter. The least that we as south africans can do is to raly behind the team and give the poor guy a chance to prove his worth. He is allowed to make mistakes, just as you would. So please, go out there, buy tickets and stop playing this munga jucko game as if like you dont know soccer....love u all. Buccanneer for life!

some of the comments made in this forum smell of deep ignorance that can only be erased by logical application of our minds. it is sad that most of 'us'fail to apply our minds when we make comments. to judge mosimane as using brazillian tactics and being biased in his selection is premature,given the lack of evidence in support of such verbal diarrhea. how do you jugde someone to be brazillian in his football philosophy based on one game?is one game sufficient to warrant a judgement of someone's philosophy in general?what is brazzilian about our style of play?these innumerable questions warrant answers. my questions are mostly directed at the premature,non-****ytical soccer critic who knows nothing about football and thus prone to making comments that escape our logic as followers of football. it seems to me that Tivani and his crew of ignoramous soccer commentators post their utterances here just so that they can get attention,because clearly if their posts are 'genuine' then they need to get their heads examined. try to be constructive and logical in your criticisms and comments because the posity of rationale in your articulations is rather embarrasing.

Pitso there u go again, winning at all costs? There's a team in de PSL with that kind of mentality. Ask Arrows they're recent victims. Daai team's playa's push dat kind of mentality. Viva: Tivani,King, Nosi and Kwa-Mashobana. Long live comrades

What is it to say "Win at all cost" against Niger, which was dismentled 3-1 by Lesotho 2yrs ago?

Com'on, real tests are yet to come; goodluck, BAFANA. All the investment you made will come to fruition...
