Pitso: Thumbs up from 'Mbazo'

Although an official announcement has yet to be made Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena has endorsed Pitso Mosimane's appointment as national team coach.

Safa quardedly announced last night that they had 'reached an agreement' with Mosimane to take over the national team following the departure of Carlos Alberto Parreira, but added that some matters needed to be cleared before it became final.

'Mbazo' has not waited for confirmation and tells East London's Daily Dispatch that, "Pitso has been in the foundation of Bafana Bafana and he knows the ins and outs of the team.

"Yes, there are lots of good coaches out there that can take the post, but the fact that we have the foundation, we need someone from within the structure to build on this foundation," Mokoena said.

The Portsmouth skipper has revealed that Mosimane has already shared his vision with the players.

"Firstly it's all about development, we had a chat with Pitso and we said that development can be much better in football in South Africa, I'm sure his appointment can make a difference to South African football.

"I've been working with him for years and I know what kind of manager he is. I look forward to working with him if he gets the job," Mokoena added.

According to the Daily Dispatch report, despite Safa sitting the whole day before agreeing Mosimane is their man, they were however concerned about his salary package.

"We are thinking of making an announcement today, but there are still a number of things that we have to sort out," Fanyana Sibanyoni the chairman of the Safa technical committee said yesterday.

Sibanyoni's assertion follows after Safa president, Kirsten Nematandani, confirmed that Mosimane will indeed coach.

There were initial fears the appointment of Mosimane would give rise to massive restrictions, with the team controlled more from the boardroom than on the pitch itself.

However, Nematandani has quashed those fears, saying Safa will be there to help out if needed – not in an interfering manner.

"He is the one who will work with the national team and it is absolutely up to him to decide whom he will have next to him. It is his call. We want to make sure that he gets everything that he wants so that he does not have to stress about minor off-the-field stuff," Nematandani said.

Safa has been dilly-dallying in confirming Mosimane as national team boss since Bafana bombed out in the first round of the World Cup tournament.

This will put pressure on Mosimane as he will have his work cut out with the qualifiers for the next Africa Cup of Nations starting in September where Bafana are in a difficult group with Niger, Sierra Leone and defending champion Egypt.

Taking one step forward and two steps backwards!
If we are really serious about winning in the SWC in Brazil in 2014, or at least get through the FIRST round, then we are going to have to take a very serious look at soccer in this country starting at grassroots level and all the way to the top to the SAFA fat cats! A determined, coordinated, well organised and skilled soccer culture in SA is almost non-existent...or do you also have to be a BEE candidate to make it to play soccer at the highest level in this country? No wonder our "professionals" can't even pass or kick a ball properly...brainless soccer!

Kenneth : 2010-07-15 09:46

Yeah we know, now your place in the team is gaurantee for the next 10 years. You will be pairing with Katza.

The reality is, Bafana did not do us proud because they failed to proceed to the next round, do not read me wrong, I support the team. Pitso was part of the technical team behind this team and they failed. You cannot continue with this team if you are serious about building the 2014 squad with average age of 24yrs. I am not convinced that Pitso is the right choice, given what happened throughout the spending of millions to prepare a team that we should have been proud of. His PSL track record vs Gavin Hunt is not convincing. He was given a chance for the past four years to build the foundation as part of the technical team, let him be given a chance and if results are not coming within the first 12 months, they will never come. He just need to be replace before is too late as this will be evidence that the continuity thing used as a reason is not taking us in the right path. Lastly, Please SAFA stop waisting money on coaching, we need development as in yesterday.

Soccer Critic ( Tivani ): 2010-07-15 09:47

SAFA missed a golden opportunity to carry the momentum gained from the WC, as always they blundered. Pitso has never achieved anything worthwhile to deserve to coach SA, ge re bolela nnete Gavin Hunt or Gordon Ignesund deserves the job more than anyone else at this current juncture. Until we stop being obsessed with race and make our decisions based on merit we will never achieve anything soccer wise. lets just forget about going to Brazil come 2014, Parreira should have been begged to stay till 2014 at least if continuity was what were looking for. Gavin & Gordon are also SAn's thus i dont see the logic of excluding the best we have...lets just grow up please for the sake of our beloved country.

Soccer Critic ( Tivani ): 2010-07-15 09:49

SAFA should learn from the mistakes they made in the last decade. They must simply follow standard procedure. When a high profile post is made open have candidates apply (Manqoba Mqheti, Khabo Zondo, dare I mention Gavin Hunt and Gordon Igesund). Being Assistant coach does not automatically make you a great coach. No one would like to see Pitso fail but Bafana needs to take that next step. Replacing Perrira with Pitso is DEFINATELY a few notches down.

Soccer Critic ( Tivani ): 2010-07-15 09:50

we need someone to take our national team to a higher level than it is right now, Perreira to me failed to do the Job irrespective of the refrees and i don't see Pitso taking us anywhere. we need young players and a coach with a better vision for the future not continuity because the current guys are simply sissies. Fellow South Africans look at GHANA they have the youngest team, in that case you can talk of continuity not this useless Mokeana's, Yeyes's and the likes

Wonder: 2010-07-15 09:52

Well done SAFA on doing the right thing in appointing Pitso, thats a great move.

But bafethu, did you hear about what Betty McCarthy said about the Vuvuzela? here is a small preview:

Benni McCarthy hates vuvuzelas
15 July 2010
Ramatsiyi Moholoa
CONTROVERSIAL Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy has blasted the vuvuzela, hardly a week after Fifa boss Sepp Blatter praised the plastic instrument for adding excitement during the 2010 World Cup.
McCarthy, Bafana all-time top goalscorer, said the vuvuzela was too noisy and should not be allowed into the stadiums in England.
Speaking on the West Ham United website, McCarthy, who is expected to come under a barrage of criticism from many South Africans for the call, said he hated the vuvuzela with a passion.
Many English soccer fans were among the thousands who were seen leaving OR Tambo International Airport with vuvuzelas.
“It is the worst thing. It is a typical South African thing but the reason I hate them is that when I’m playing I can’t hear myself and I can’t get the message across,” McCarthy said.

Soccer Critic ( Tivani ): 2010-07-15 09:53

It's better we took 2 to 3 years building a new young blood team, than continueing with Pitso. New technical team, new system, More young Blood. We dont want to continue with Perraire's ideologies. Infact, Mr Jacob Zuma should have banned Bafana Bafana, from competing at international level after WC poor showing. He should have done what Nigeria, was about to do. He must stop being too lenient and soft. Disband SAFA.

Honest: 2010-07-15 09:55

When will we learn Mbazo only plays well when he Earns those Big Bucks. In Bafana he feels like the alpha and Omega like he is the Boss ****en uselesss i tell you its coz of him we had bad results i say remove him as Captain and you will see he will retire again just as he did before. Pitso can be Coach but he will need a Assistant Eg Clive Barker or Gavin Hunt. we all know he is Very Racsist... He is really Racsist eish sorry SA we will Fail again we need a Clean up

Teko Modise was the worst player in the whole of the 2010 World Cup team.

And Pitso will do well at Bafana Bafana, h just doesn't need pessimists like you next to him....!!!!!

Soccer Critic ( Tivani ): 2010-07-15 09:53

Zuma doesn't own Bafana Bafana or South Africa for that matter, this is not some Banana republic like Nigeria where one man decides for all, this is a democratic state. let Zuma try that and he will be out the next day!

Sweyts: 2010-07-15 10:16

As long as Mbazo remains part and parcel of the team, I give up on Bananas!

Wonder, I read the Benni Vuvuzela story before Maraba played the clip....The boy's just bitter man, let him be. I mean who would'nt be under the circumstances?

Besides ivuvuzela can be really irritaing if you're not the blower, that's why conservative people and whites hate it, remember Benni is white too! lol!

“It is the most annoying thing and you go deaf, so I hope they don’t bring them into English football. That is South African football, this is the Premier League, which is singing and the cheering your team on. That is what it is all about.”

The so called OP fans King and Tivani U guys must be drunk or nisapota ngezinqe
Teko and Mbazo and Thwala were the worst SA players in the tournament. regardless of the team they coming from they played KAAK period. Teko was always dribbling backwards ending up lossing possession. He failed to score simplie 2 goals which shud have led us to last 16. U guys must stop your Pirates foot foot tendency wen u talking about the national team.

Swona (Treble): 2010-07-15 15:53

to be honest, no player in SA, who plays locally or abroad, favouritsm aside who is better than Mabalane on the same position, I may not know how he will play this year, but since he joined OP, he is the best in that position, I may not know the aproach of the technical team when they select players, but I wont choose Teko to play Mabalane's position in the national team!

Swona (Treble): 2010-07-15 16:27

why is mbazo's opinion so important to kickoff? Pitso and co, said some players must retire international football, was mbazo's name not one of those?
