Khumalo looks back with pride

Despite failing to qualifying for the World Cup knockout stage, SuperSport United defender Bongani Khumalo still looks back with pride, especially to his first goal in Bafana Bafana colours against France in Bloemfontein yesterday.

Khumalo raised South Africa's hopes when he rose high and nodded in Siphiwe Tshabalala's corner kick in the 20th minute.

However Bafana's 2-1 win against France was not enough to take them through to the next stage.

Speaking to KickOff.com, Khumalo says scoring his first goal for Bafana against France will remain one of the highlights of his career so far.

"It was very exciting to score my first goal for Bafana, but to score in such a big tournament makes it even more special. It was a magical moment but unfortunately the win against France was not enough to take us through to the next stage.

"We tried our best but I think the game that cost us lot was the one against Uruguay which was also clouded by controversial refereeing decisions.

"We have learnt some good lessons and gained experience from this tournament and now we have to look forward and prepare ourselves to do well in the next tournaments."

Khumalo refused to speculate on his future in football given his good showings during the World Cup.

"I have always wanted a move overseas but let us wait and see what is going to happen."

You Played very well yesterday, Bra Bongi, You deserve the captaincy of BAFANA from MBAZO who costed us a lot

My future Bafan captain! Very calm on the ball and very intelligent defender, unlike some people...

After much crap has been said regarding the famous win over France yesterday, I find it in me to congratulate the boys and the coach for the work done so far. Our team is out and dusted in the tournament however I'm not bitter. There quite a lot of positives to be drawn out of this tournament, and I strongly believe SAFA will take good decisions to appoint a great coach who will build on the foundation laid by Sir Parreira.

To the boys go and enjoy a well deserved rest with your families and hope you come back and continue where you left with France. I know critics will say France had their own problems and hence you beat them, I say that's their problem as they had other players plying their trade in top leagues in Europe. France came here knowing there's millions of fans in their country who hoped they will beat a lowly ranked Bafana. Call it mediocre or anything you think I'm happy with the boys performance and determination yesterday, and I have a reason to be hopeful for future. Viva SA Viva Bafana Bafana!

Are we so used to loosing such that we allow people who have failed us not to aknowledge that. All things considered CAP and Bafana should be apologising to the nation and showing signs of disappointment not this self appreciation that they are displaying now. I'm furious, this guys failed us and are somehow inexplicably fine with it

Well done Bongani! you did yourself proud boy and certainly deserve to be there - cannot say the same for your useless captain who led the ship to sink!

How did Teko feel when the crowd booed him last night?? hahahahaha - big head got what he deserved! blame Parreira and Pitso for that!

Going forward, we need to keep the shape of the team. Get Moon in to the team to replace Nqonqa, play the strong defense that played 10 games and only conceded 1 goal.. Sangweni and Khumalo at centre back, get good substitutions for them. Have another stong man to replace Sibaya, I don’t think He’ll make it to 2014, he’s old, good slow, but does his job excellently..

We need to have a replacement for Tshabalala, may be Klate or Cale or someone else.

We need a good attarking midfielder to replace Pinaar, and a replacement for Nomvete, we don’t need him in our team.

We have a team, a very strong team with that understand what’s required of them, but have no good replacements.. Gaxa needs to really work on his attacking skills.. this thing of stopping instead of crossing when your strikers are in line with defenders must stop.

Viva Bafana.. our mission 1 is Africa Cup of Nations 2012..

@James how would u feel if it was u who was booed, Shabba missed a clear cup chance yesterday, the less said about Mphela the better, what puzzels me is that all ppl who were critisizing Teko for the misses are all quit abouth Shabba and Mphelas misses, just imagine if it was Teko who missed those chances "tjo".

THE GENERAL wil continue to play 4 BB and will captain the team in 2014, his haters must brace themselves for more frustration until their stupidity is cured.
