Robson blames vuvuzelas for defeat

Posted: 2010-05-16 21:03

Thailand coach Bryan Robson is partially blaming the deafening noise of vuvuzelas for his team’s defeat to South Africa in Nelspruit on Sunday.

The former England captain also says the plastic trumpet has the potential to be a weapon for Bafana Bafana in the World Cup.

Thailand lost 4-0 to South Africa in front of 42 000 people at the Mbombela Stadium, and Robson complained afterwards that the sound of ear-splitting and tuneless trumpeting drowned out any instructions from the bench.

“I think with that noise South Africa could have an advantage in the World Cup,” Robson is quoted by Reuters. “If the atmosphere is like that in the World Cup it will raise the level of the players a little bit. If the supporters are behind them like that, it will be a big boost.”

Complaints about the vuvuzela during last year’s Confederations Cup in South Africa were rejected by Fifa, who said there would be no ban on the long plastic instrument at the World Cup.

“The coaches at the World Cup are definitely going to have to inform their players beforehand that they will have to communicate effectively with each other on the field,” added the former Manchester United player.

“It's very difficult to get any message to the players from the bench. Coaches are going to have to make that known to their players.”

Robson had to call players over to the side of the pitch on several occasions during the match to try and pass on instructions. However, Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira is not perturbed and has asked the fans to double their efforts.

“We have to reinforce that advantage,” the Brazilian mentor said in response. “We want it louder and louder.”

Perreira For president. While Robson is complianing ka Vuvu, he goes for the high tackle, BBLLOOWW THEM LOUDER. Classic.......... he would make a good politician.

Leroele: 2010-05-17 08:39

tk ,why do you have to put Trott in this whole situation?Sis Man
As it stands Trott is the last coach to have given Sundowns silverware

As for Brian Robson, the man complained about vuvuzela but later so the positives from it.This should be understandable. This man had the skills of an african footballer and to date no english player can match his skills and flair. He was like the Doctor Khumalo of english football

It goes without saying that Robson is talking crab....but we should not fool ourselves into beleiving that vuvuzelas will win us games ..come the world cup.It just happened that we were playing nobody. Against Mexico, Uruguay and France...it would be who wants it more. Period.
