Khune: Fans vibe boosting Bafana

Posted: 2010-05-14 12:33

Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune says the energy created by the fans as the World Cup nears is proving a confidence booster for the team and he hopes the support that they provide will be influential in ripping apart Thailand at the new Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

The Asians are the first opponents that Bafana will come up against in the final camp being staged at home.

"It has been a motivation to see that people are behind us and we are happy with the support we get everywhere we go. Even at training, the stadiums are packed and the messages that they are sending to us makes us proud, so we have to go out there and do the same for them," says the Kaizer Chiefs' keeper.

Although the issue of the quality of opposition that Bafana has come up against in past friendly games has been of concern to Khune, he believes any test is okay and adds that they will not be underestimating Thailand.

We may also have Argentina coming which will give us a good test
- Itumeleng Khune

"I really think it is good that when going into a competition like the World Cup you play against strong sides. But you have to understand that the strong sides are not there to play against, so we must accept any country that is prepared to play with us because we need to play more and games in order for us to see whether we are ready or not.

"So far I think we have done well in the games that we have played against other nations. I think we may also have Argentina coming which will give us a good test as well.

"We still have five more friendly games to play before we go to the World Cup. After that, we will be able to do well as a team.

"I have shown what I can do for the country in the Confederations Cup and I think it is possible for me to do the same at the World Cup," says the man who will celebrate his 23rd birthday on June 20 during the World Cup.

Why are Chiefs so obsessed with Teko Modise that when they open their mouth it is "Teko Modise" playing rubbish...their problem is that they support "Chiefs in the National team" and they think players from other teams aren't good.I remember how they used to hate Chippa Masinga even when he was a best player in team and they thought the lazy Doctor Khumalo was the best...even today they will tell you "During the time of Doctor" the sooner you realise that the national team cannot comprise of Chiefs players only the better. NB!! Not all Chiefs supporters though, only the stupid Chiefs supporters!! NX!!! we are sick and tired of you critisising players from other teams unneccesarirly. Khune was out of form in the squad and conceding stupid goals but nobody made noise. Sies!!
