Bafana face tough Cruzeiro

Bafana Bafana can expect a tough match when they play Cruzeiro on Wednesday night at the Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil’s third largest city.

The Foxes, who are currently the best team in the state of Minas Gerais, having won the Campeonato Mineiro five times since 2003, finished fourth in the Brazilian Serie A last season behind Flamengo, Internacianal and Sao Paulo.

Their coach Adilson Batista has promised to utilise a full-strength side as he sees the friendly match as a good opportunity for his warriors to experience a different style of football than they are accustomed to.

Carlos Alberto Parreira will be fully aware of how difficult it is to play at the Mineirão - where the fanatical local fans always give visiting sides a hostile reception.

Cruzeiro beat America 3-2 over the weekend and last month thrashed Bolivian outfit Real Potosi 7-0 in a Copa Libertadores fixture so this encounter will be the first real test for Bafana in Brazil.

On Sunday, heavy rains caused floodlight failure at the ground for over half an hour and there is a possibility of further showers.

The match kicks off at 21h50 local time, which is five hours later in SA.
