Bafana Bafana players in Brazil believe that they are already making progress under Carlos Alberto Parreira at the camp in Granja Comary.
Speaking about their 8-0 rout of Fluminese's reserve team at the weekend, defender Thabo Nthethe, says: "You can see by the way we were playing that the fitness level is getting to where it's supposed to be, and the result shows that we are following the instructions of the coach to the letter.
Midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala, agrees: "The overall performance was good, we kept shape very well. It was a good effort from the guys but we can take this a gear higher. There is still a lot to be done, so we have to take one game at a time. It's also good that we scored so many goals because it helps with the confidence, and as for me scoring two goals in a match it was excellent in that I haven't done that in a long time.
"This shows that what we are doing here in camp is really working and these games are helping the coach gauge our progress, so the remaining matches are very crucial for our success."
As in their first game against Volta Redonda, Parreira used two different teams in each half.
According to details provided by Safa, the match started at a furious pace and Bafana showed much improvement compared to the first match.
Their passes were almost all spot on, and they kept shape and the ball possession was a marvel to watch.
But it took Parreira's boys 40 minutes to find the back of the net with Tshabalala the scorer following a fine move which involved a couple of players.
A minute later he made it 2-0 and Bafana were in complete control.
In the second half, the second team continued where the first side finished. Five minutes after the restart Kermit Erasmus increased the lead to 3-0, making it 4-0 a minute later.
It was Reneilwe Letsholonyane's turn to put the matter beyond doubt when he scored a beautiful free-kick after he was fouled on the edge of the box.
Tlou Segolela, Richard Henyekane and Daylon Claasen completed the rout by getting their names on the score sheet – Claasen scoring from the penalty kick after Thulani Serero was brought down.
