Bafana Bafana played to a goalless draw against Volta Redonda in Tersopolis yesterday.
While KickOff.com awaits a full match report, indications are that the South Africans dominated the game.
Meanwhile, it has also emerged that coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has a far better idea with regards to the composition of his Bafana Bafana squad for the World Cup than he is letting on.
The Brazilian mentor let slip during an interview by journalists in Teresopolis at the weekend that only about half of the 29 players that he has at Granja Comary will be in his final line-up.
Parreira is under the spotlight in his homeland and is being questioned extensively by the local media over coach Carlos Dunga’s contentious early selections and omissions in his squad for the South African showpiece and on the reasons behind Brazil’s failure at the 2006 World Cup in Germany where they were beaten 1-0 by France in the quarterfinals.
Parreira is carefully avoiding the controversy surrounding the current Selecao squad and their lack typical joga bonito flair but talking about their failure at the 2006 World Cup, the Bafana Bafana mentor says:
“Our preparations were on track for three years leading up the tournament, but then in the last phase, things didn’t go the way we planned.
“Things got out of control and some of the players were not fit or in form and we did not have time to recover.”
