Carlos Alberto Parreira: South Africans think with their hearts

Parreira: SA think with their hearts

Posted: 2010-03-11 07:52

Carlos Alberto Parreira has told the Brazilian press that South Africans think with their hearts and want results at the World Cup.

The Bafana Bafana coach, speaking from the training camp, Granja Comary, told his countrymen that the idea behind bringing the squad to the facility in Tersepolis was because he wanted them to be motivated ahead of the June showpiece.

"This is the cradle of soccer worldwide. Great Brazilian champions have trained here and this serves as inspiration for my players."

Parreira added that the visit to Brazil was important because he wanted Bafana Bafana to play the ball on the ground instead of prioritizing aerial attacks.

He said South African soccer did not have an identity.

"I find that our style [of Brazil] could easily be adapted by South African soccer and therefore there is nothing better that to play in Brazil against local teams to learn.

"My task is full of pressure because the nation thinks with the heart. They want that team to reach the semi-final or better at the World Cup and not just to improve in the Fifa ranks. What they want is results."

Bafana will play Cruzeiro on Thursday, next week in Belo Horizonte, and then Botafogo, three days later in Rio de Janeiro.

Parreira told the Brazilian media that he had brought 29 players to the training centre since he had not been able to get permission from overseas clubs to bring their South African players, but hoped to have them when they move to Germany for further training and another series of preparatory games.

Your task is to reach the second round, we didn't talk about semis, and why say all these things now that u are in Brazil. U don't want to be called a failer after the world cup so u are telling people that we have impossible expectations. Nxa

DR NDIVHUWO: 2010-03-11 09:26

No no Carlos, only zim chiefs supporters think with their pump. ha ha ha so this is why u wanted to go to Brazil, to tease and bully us. beware u my not return with players.

BrokeFan: 2010-03-11 10:00

Funny how position 2 can make people make such noise. Dr Ndivhuwo, your team came 2nd after spending R25m more than number 1 and R28m more than number 3 spot occupants. Parreira is referring to South African-Brazilians. They think with their hearts, they spend millions to buy success something money can't buy. It wont be long before we read that Mamelodi Circus is going to train in Brazil (Granja Comary)for PSL preparations...

Hai Bo Mzansi, do see what I see? How much has SAFA invest in BRASIL vele? 1st it Parreira, then Sathane, then again Parreira also not forgeting his Assistant is also from BRASIL,now the classic one it's now BRASILIAN facilities, obviously BB will play Local BRAZILIAN's teams.!!!

I PAUSE...very woried and puzzled!

SNYEMFU: 2010-03-11 10:11

My heart bleeds when i realise that even kickoff focuses on the statement that "the nation think with the heart", when there is so much to entertain from Parreira's interview. He says our soccer did not have identity and that what he wants to focus on in Brazil, but becos we like our skop n donner we ignore that fact.

My concern though is that time is limited to learn from four matches in Brazil with players who are not guaranteed for a place in the WC. Secondly Parreira has watched most of our PSL games, man i want to confess most PSL teams lack a pattern(identity). Work hard boys we are behind you.

DR NDIVHUWO: 2010-03-11 10:47

ha ha ha Broken, us people who can afford, we dont look at the price, we just pick cause we love it. ha ha how much did chiefs spent? Supersport had about 12 new players with more than 5 bought not free. so when u imply that Supersport spent 3 million more than zim chiefs, it doesn't make sense unless u think with ur heart ha ha ha Carlos u ya gwara yoo.

"He said South African soccer did not have an identity"

SNYEMFU AND I hate downs fans

Dudes I understand your frustrations but I don't blame Parreira for saying that. There's only one team to blame: Sundowns. I mean if a South African team can call itself Brazilians what does that tell to an outsiders like Parreira? Guys go to Sundowns Headquaters in Choorkop and you will be shocked, the exterior wall has Brazilians printed all over, their items(coffee mugs, caps, curtains, etc..) are printed Brazilians. Even Mambush refers to himself as a Brazilian. He was shown on SSU4 TV program ridding a horse. He called himself a Brazilian Cowboy...

Etheni: 2010-03-11 11:46

Pareira have every right to say whatever he wana becos he's at home. When he come back to S.A. he'll tell the press kutya: S.A. plays a unique style (identy) and that will be a threat to our opponents...lol

DR NDIVHUWO: 2010-03-11 12:14

Sundowns is called Brazilians cause we are the best in soccer same as Brazil. unlike chiefs of indian, whats that have to do with soccer? mmmh chiefs and soccer, it dont make sense, only a man who drop out in std7 can come up with something like this!

Lmfao..hehehehehehe
They r behind this whole identity crisis ish lol, imagine a South African team, 8 of them calling themselves Brazilians..Parreira has every right 2 b concerned

Jokes aside, i really dnt care what Parreira does or says now, he must just return wid a team that can compete on international level finish, these distractions wont get us nowhere

DR NDIVHUWO: 2010-03-11 12:14 [ Report ]

Leave my team Kaizer Chiefs alone, and please help me, stop comparing Sundowns with Chiefs.

Sundowns is own by a profit driven person, "phecelezi" iCapitalist at its best.

Whilst Chiefs is owned by an ex-professional soccer player, who humbly started it from scratch with his sweat and blood.

FYI, we Chiefs supporters don't support money, but a team that generate money and play for its stakeholders not an individual who is so-called a President.

If you don't know what to write just SHUT UP!

Mbongolo, nx!

this statement is embarrassing we don't think with our minds we think with our hearts. ok! maybe i take things seriously, i just think this means that we are not realistic we expect more even though our team got the poorest(lowest ranked) quality compared to other teams coming here. i like the politeness of person who wrote the article.
