Parreira to change squad

Parreira to change squad

Posted: 2009-12-07 09:22

Bafana Bafana head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira says he is thinking of preparing a “different squad”.

The Brazilian was speaking to Sunday Sun, before he left the country yesterday to go back to Brazil to prepare for the training camp, which Bafana will hold there early next year.

Bafana have been drawn with France, Mexico and Uruguay in Group A of next year’s World Cup and Parreira says we can’t afford to face such strong countries mainly with benchwarmers in our squad.

“You can say that is a handicap for us. I have looked at France and I have noticed they have about 15 players abroad but they are regularly in action at their clubs. Many of our players are not even playing and that is why we need to prepare a different squad because we can’t rely on players who arrive 15 days before the World Cup and then discover that they are not fit,” he said.

However, the World Cup winning coach told the media on Friday after the draw that “We are not afraid of anyone”, despite the challenges the national team faces in the run up to the global showpiece.

no1fan: 2009-12-07 09:47

Yo yo yo! Fringe oversees players are in trouble!

Chichiboy: 2009-12-07 09:57

Give Teko, Tshabalala and Mokoena the boot, they haven't earned their place in the squad and need to perform consistently at club level to earn their keep. NO PLACE FOR COMPLACENCY FROM NOW ON!!!

roki: 2009-12-07 10:14

I have respect for Pareirra, he calls a spade a spade. This guy will take S.A, to greater places.

Ganadlha: 2009-12-07 10:16

You c now the coach is talking my language.Mokoena Aaron should get the Axe.that's no:1 Nassief Morries should be called back to replace him. Bradley Canell also must be called Siyabonga Sangweni already in Mabizela Mbulelo should also be robbed in.Then we are covered with other guys who are playing regular on their Teams.
You Parreira.take all the dead wood out.
We want2 win our open game plus against France.2win plus a Draw with Uruguay we are in.

G Malaba : 2009-12-07 10:17

Way to go coach, this busines of calling people because of what they used to do must end. If they cant break into their clubs lineup, of which some of them are mediocre, how can they do it 4 the squad. We have capable players who are in action wk in wk out. Be brave coach, we behind you all the way.

Gucci Man: 2009-12-07 10:21

Coach: Please make sure that Abia Nale is included in the team , i still believe tht Tso Vilakazi still has a lot to offer in our national team.

OJ Mabizela is good and derseves a chance and he'll never dissapoint you.

Sibusiso: 2009-12-07 10:27

CAP will do good by firing all the dead wood in the team. Good move coach, there are more deserving players who are always overlooked, as to how I dont know. The first one to go should be Pitso Mosimane because all this f***k starts from him.

Way to go coach. K4L!!!!

Ayoba: 2009-12-07 10:37

This man is such a joker. From the onset the very same players were benchwarmers, whom is he trying to fool? He want to have excuses when he fails to go to the next round? He is the one who started with these benchwarmers? Can he identify 7 players who play regularly in their teams abroad? I bet you he will not. It's either he go for our local average players in this mediocre league or go with the benchwarmers. Stop lying to us Mr thatha mamillion, you do not have a choice.

Arly-G: 2009-12-07 10:54

Get read of Modise and company.

Stonza: 2009-12-07 10:54

Now you are talking....We need people who are match fit...select by merit not by who you used to be!!!he he he...shapa Killer shapa!!!

Moxin: 2009-12-07 10:55

I think the coach is roght you really cannot win anything with benchwarmers unless you play Madagascar,Mauritius,Sychelles to mention but a few but for the WC we need the most fit.Go ahead bench the benchwarmers and play regulars.

vuxiya: 2009-12-07 11:20

Ayoba: 2009-12-07 10:37
Ayoba spot on my bra, only pienaar is playing now.i call your statement a FACT.

junior: 2009-12-07 12:00

i like this attitude from our coach.only Pienaar is playing regularly and he has been the backbone of Moyes`s team in the absence of injured Mikel Arteta.if u get rid of the bench warmers, then i wil love u til i die.

Patrick: 2009-12-07 12:00

Now we are talking, firstly i wud like to apologise to the coach, I thot he didn't know wat the hell he was doing also, but he has surprised me by his comments. Get rid of the bench warmers and play the players that plays wk in n wk out. In other words select the rite/ form players mr Coach and the results will follow.Pats

Lenkhosi: 2009-12-07 12:14

many SA fans complained when u were paid R1.8 million but now they have an answer on why u deserved this money.Coach u are really a genius at your own class. why should we play players the likes of Benni& co. when he is not playing in his club and keeping reguler players away from the squad, is about big names or Big Football?
thats the way to go if we want to move to the next round, otherwise "Hand of Golg" Henry Thiery will give us a big headach. Lenkhosi from Swaziland.

Swona Champ!: 2009-12-07 12:30

Mokoena Aaron OUT!!!

The Game: 2009-12-07 12:33

This is nothing but the signals of being worried and anxious about our opponents...so let's try to find sense in what South Africa national coach is trying to say: his comment merely comes from the draw neh, so he would have been happy if we were drawn against the likes of New Zealand, Australia, Slovenia but how possible that you now at the time start to look for the criteria of selecting your players...Parreira first wena you don't think any African team will win the World Cup...it's all about the big guns in your head: Brazil will beat South Africa, Brazil is unstoppable, Brazil will win the World Cup, Brazil this, Brazil that !!!

I'm Sorry to say this,,,This moemish has no faith in our players actually African players as a whole,,,bringing him back was one of the stupiediest things ever happened in the history of South African football: nnnxx Parreira just shut up and do your work !!!

lloyd : 2009-12-07 12:53

Plz mr coach, dnt pick aaron mokoena

bawa: 2009-12-07 13:43

Be your own self and play with countries like Ghana and Ivory Coast to test your squad!

loxition: 2009-12-07 14:12

I am also happy to hear that from you coach but it is going to apply to all benchwarmers including favourites

Mookamedi: 2009-12-08 10:55

why is he only saying this after the draw!!!i have just lost any respect i had for Perreira now, he's clue less....he has been preparing the squad for the past who knows, but he cudnt pick that up.he'll embarass South Africa and say these excuses afterwards.
the worst embarassment that i see for Bafana will be....early exit having played 3 Group stage matches with 0 Goal 0 Point.

Mookamedi: 2009-12-08 10:59

OH PLIS i hate Thembelani like hell...do you realy have Master Degree or you were promised Master Degree in 7 Days by Con men at Bell ford University or Hill University, u'll be sorry my boy.

leo: 2009-12-10 15:51

Yeah! we need a coach with confident like Parreira. SA Citizen just need to back off with the endless comment that we have then focus on supporting Bafana Bafana. i will be the Happiest person to see Bafana attaining the last eight, which is what we going to do. i got high hopes and less comment for now. Good luck to our SA Squad.
