Fulham and South Africa international Kagisho Dikgacoi has endorsed the contribution made by leading footballers in the English Premier League towards the changing of lives in some impoverished African societies.
Dikgacoi was speaking in the run-up to Monday evening’s prestigious Score for Africa Awards, which will be held at London’s Sheraton Hotel.
“Some of us know what it means to be poor and we appreciate every minute of the fortunate lives we’ve been able to build, but we always remember those who have the will but no means to improve their lives.”
‘Score for Africa’ is a part of the African Foundation for Development, whose mission is not only to provide aid but to create jobs and drive enterprise development in Africa.
The Brandfort, Free State-born Dikgacoi, who played in Sunday’s 1-1 drawn match against Bolton Wanderers, will rub shoulders with a select group of leading personalities at the awards evening on Monday.
“It is great that the likes of Aaron Mokoena, Didier Drogba, Craig Bellamy and others are dedicating their time to becoming involved with changing the lives of those less fortunate,” he said.
Other ambassadors of the charity include Diamansy Kamara (Fulham), Nwanko Kanu (Portsmouth), Benjani Mwaruwari (Manchester City) and Carlton Cole (West Ham United).
Judges in the 2009 awards include Castrol Ambassador, World Cup and two-time Champions League winner Marcel Desailly, enteprenuer Nancy Dell’Olio and Sports Editor of the Observer Brian Oliver.
