Nigeria crash, South Korea through

Posted: Jun 22 2010

Nigeria and South Korea drew 2-2 which means Nigeria are out of the tournament while the Koreans match on.

The Nigeria goals were scored by Kalu Uche and Yakubu Aiyegbeni and for Korea, the goals came from Jung Soo Lee and Chu Young Park.

Kalu Uche then broke the deadlock in an emphatic fashion after 12 minutes. Odiah easily passed two Koreans on the right flank, and he should have been dispossessed, before he swung the ball in for a lurking Uche, who cut infront of his man and poked the ball into the net.

South Korea got their chance to reply when Yeom Ki-Hun stood over a free-kick in a dangerous area on the right. It was a good delivery but, lacking in height, the ball went back out to safety with easy Uche soon reared his head again at the other end, but opting to shoot instead of crossing proved a poor idea as his shot went well over the bar.

Uche hit the post on 35 minutes. A devilish strike from range really rattled the woodwork, leaving Jung Sung-Ryong stranded, but no one was there to nudge the rebound into the empty net for the African side.

Chinedu Obasi was the first person to receive a yellow after some dangerous play down the left flank. Ki Sung-Yong swung in the free-kick and Lee Jung-Soo was able to run in unmarked at the back post to nod the ball in to bring the scores back to level pegging. The referee called it after 2 minutes of added time and the teams went in with a goal each.

Danny Shittu conceded a foul outside of his own box in a dangerous area for the Asians on the pitch - and dangerous it was. Park Chu-Young stood over the ball and bent it expertly around the wall, beating a wrong-footed Enyeama in the process. It was a dream start to the second half for South Korea as they took the lead for the first time in the game.

We had the miss of the World Cup so far. Ayila made a wonderful run down the left before squaring the ball into an unmarked Yakubu who was standing in front of an open goal. No easier chance could have been presented to the Yak, but he somehow managed to put his effort wide from 6-yards. It was truly a sight to behold.

However, it wasn't long before Yakubu had a chance to make up for his mistake, and South Korea Huh Jung-Moo would begin to regret ever sending on Kim Nam-Il. The overexcited defensive midfielder would find himself in the book after scything down Obasi in the box. The Nigerian crowd fell silent as Yakubu was designated the task of the taking the penalty, but the big striker calmly slotted past Jung Sung-Ryong to bring the scores level once again.

Park Ji-Sung wrong-footed Echiejile before cutting inside and shooting, but his powerful shot shook the outside of the net. Soon after, Obafemi Martins was played onside by Chinedu Obasi with only the 'keeper to beat. Once again though, the Nigerians lacked teeth as his deft chip rolled past the post with Jung Sung-Ryong sprawled outside his 6-yard box.

A chance fell to Martins as a cross came in from the right. The Wolfsburg striker failed to control the lofty ball properly s it neared the ground, and once more the Super Eagles were left ruing wasted opportunities due to a lack of sharpness at the front.

Obinna then struck twice in as many minutes in a last-gasp attempt to snatch the win for the Africans. He first made space before shooting just inside the area and seeing his attempt go just wide. He struck again soon after only to see his more powerful long-range shot suffer the same fate, which really seemed to sum up Nigeria's entire attack line for the duration.

With Argentina winning 2-0 against Greece it would have taken just one more goal from the Nigerians to seal a place in the last 16. It was not to be though as the referee called it after 93 minutes, allowing the South Koreans safe passage to the next stage with the Albiceleste, while the Super Eagles join must the Greeks on the plane home.

That is Rubbish. Nig. Players are simple not equal to the task. But the coach is an idiot by using lazy player Yakubu, nonsence, we don't this kind of coach aho look face.

lucky was not on our side, lack o exprience 4m ****u olso cost us.he can not head the ball away without pushing sm1 away,y?

Toad  : 2010-06-22 22:51

nigeria are simply the weakest team in this World Cup. Their supporters are living in the past hence they think they are the best. They have been grouped in one if not the weakest group & yet they could'nt win a single game. Pathetic losers with fat defenders.

1point won't make go for the next round, never! The drug-lords didn't win at least one game in the African world cup. They won no game in African soil's show piece.

This result is terible...i dont wanta talk bout the coach today...the present SE has deep problems....the team has got too many average players who shouldn't even go close to the team at all...if i start mentioning names....'ll mention more than half of the present team....this present team is realy rubbish....i dont know and dont realy care who the next coach is gointa be.. no matter how tactically sound the coach might be...he needs to drop his tactics somwhere...and dig deep to search for real naija boys wey dey play football...this fantastic players are everywhere locally and abroad..this is not an age matter...its bout being talented and oozing class...
yakubu is horrible (the f.o.o.l with the captain’s hand band was actually angry when he was substituted i don’t know why!!!) and i need to mention that his penalty was poor ..we were lucky it went it...if only the South Korean obeyed the simple rule of goalkeeping..he would hav caught the penalty quite easily...cos the ball wasn’t well directed....obasi..obina..ideye....kaita.. ...echjinle..****tu...odiah(even though he had a above average performance today)..Afolabi..ayila.yakubu..should not be in the super eagles at all...the team needs a complete overhaul from defenders to the attackers....Can u imagine..kanu as old and slow as he has become still playing a lot beta than most of these so called younger boys ...he was in my opinion, our best player today...which means that our present team jst doesn't av any quality..as kanu still showed them ow to do it...the ability and talent gap btw the old and the present generation of SE...is just too wide....it is simply appauling.....looks to me like we need to start from the very beginning after the nff elections....that is anoda side of the story...i can only hop God intervenes to bring in pple to the nff who will genuinely wanta move our football forward....i need to end on a positive note...i sincerely hope the SE will be Super again starting from the next nations cup....i hop for once the football administrators will make decisions that will move our football forward...i love the eagles!!!

I think Benny should join nigeria. They are so fat. That is why they never won a game in Africa's first world cup.

afrika : 2010-06-22 23:26

3 games 1 point and no win in a relative easy group than group of BB. The abnormally Big heads of nigeria is useless team in this World cup and talk to much as if their are better than BB, I'm very happy these animals lost

Udeme: 2010-06-22 23:39

@Toad, @44passes; South Africa has made history, they are the first world cup host to be eliminated in the first round. WHAT A RECORD. Even if you guys had 100 points in 3 matches, you are still no match against the weakest Nigerian team. Don't forget that Nigeria beat South Africa home and away in the qualifiers. You guys could not even qualify for the 2010 Nations cup. By the way, you guys should start now to build up a solid team for 2014 because there will be no back door entry into the 2014 worldcup for you guys. STOP ALL THESE NOISE MAKING.

John (Geneva): 2010-06-23 00:00

What I still don't understand is how come Yakubu wasn't benched today, especially after all the protest from the whole world. Unbelievable! Hope nobody ever selects him ever again. Please do us a favor; please Yakubu retire before someone else makes the mistake of selecting you again. No class at all. Absolutely useless.

Obasi, oh my God! too damn useless as well, should never ever be invited again.

Etuhu was nowhere to be found. Useless!

****tu had good intentions but commits too many faults around the box and too much gira gira.

Afolabi please don't even think of coming back.

Obafemi is too old. This should be his last selection. Thanks for all you have done but right now your best is not good enough.

Vincent was not at his best today and too slow in leading the counter-attacks. Though not well protected by the defenders today but could have still done better. Vincent, even though I’m not a fan, I will still like to thank you for saving us from total disgrace at this world cup.

THe present 23 are our best players for now. Let us accept that they are just not good enough and start rebuilding a new team now. I do not care with which coach but definitely with new players.

UP Super Eagles

Muyiwa: 2010-06-23 00:03

44passes or what do you call yourself, you call Nigerian drug lords, let me remind you that the reason why your country did not qualify is because all of you are criminals with gun always in your pockets,so the only thing you know how to do best is to rob foreing players and visitors that come to your country, follow them from the airport to their hotelroom, lazy people.

Stonza : 2010-06-23 04:00

Letter to home affairs! Now that the WC is over for the drug lords plz make sure they are out of here!make sure they have their bags with no drugs left bhnd!plz tel General Cele to deploy cops to their fan village... I thank

Udeme: 2010-06-23 04:39

@Stonza, the worldcup is also over for the r.a.p.i.s.t.s (SA) who believe that r.a.p.i.n.g a child/virgin/young girls can help to cure HIV/AIDS.

Veron: 2010-06-23 07:26

@Udeme, from where I 'm standing ur beloved super fat chickens are no better than Bafana simply because in a million years that naija has participated in the Nations Cup I think they only managed to win it just once the same as BB in just nine attempts or should I say 18 years. Again in the world cup, out of the 4 WC played since our re-admission we played in three and most deff gunning for the 4th in Brazil come 2014. Now Udeme, can I hear some noise!!! Viva BB Viva!!!

Msanzifinest.coza: 2010-06-23 07:35

The BOYZ deserve a Big Applause, they did the country proud; at least ending the tournament with a Win and a Draw, It is time to look forward to the future,2012 CAN and 2014 Brazil, Honestly speaking Bafana Bafana has improved in the past few months, considering that they came into the tournament ranked 83 the second lowest among the qualifiers, it was regarded as the weakest team of all the 32 teams, Some ****yst and fans were predicting that BAfana Bafana will not win a single game or even get a single point,We proved all skeptics wrong, now that we performed better than Nigeria, Cameroon, some here especially Nigerians try hard to find reasons why they still think we are not improving, beacuse of their deepest hatred to South Africa, they still harbour Jealousy that we are Good Hosts who are continously getting accolades from all over the world and in Africa except in Nigeria. The Truth is South Africa is going UP and Nigeria is going DOWN; we will pass them on our way UP; smell the coffee; Past result do not count for nothing; look how Nigeria and Cameroon with all of thier so-called overseas, experienced players failed dismally to win a single game, only one point each from their relatively easy groups compared to South Africa's group. No hard feelings but the truth hurts; hence some resort to insults which are a sign of a deafeted man. ANYWAY STILL ROOTING FOR GHANA, CIV AND ALGERIA. GUD LUCK. ONE LOVE

Again i still believe that this First World Cup in Africa hosted by South Africa; will change the history of football in Africa and the World. Africa as a continent will get the respect is derseve, the image of Africa being a continent of Poverty; Hunger; Civil Wars; Corrupt governments; HIV/AIDS and Malaria/Polio etc, will change forever. The world has taken notice and got the other side of Africa that Africans can do it themselves too; and the is Hope and Future for Africa; the World can still trust us, many thanks to South Africa and its Friends around the world who made it possible for us to host the world of Footballing Nations, i still believe we will have a respresentative in the last 16; lastly i believe the PSL will now attract more players from all over the world to improve the local game and raise the standard further; remember our BAfana BAfana team was made out of 65% local players and they performed better than other players from Cameroon; Nigeria; France; England who are playing in European leagues; it shows that PSL is a good league and one of the best proffessionally run in Africa and the World and it will improve much after the World Cup..ONE LOVE AFRICA.

Bemol : 2010-06-23 07:52

Nig does not hav a team all the player are flops

Msanzifinest.coza: 2010-06-23 08:04

REMINDER OF QUOTES FROM NIGERIANS BEFORE THE GROUP STAGES GAMES:
SE have quality players than Bafana Bafana;SE will play faster; harder and quick football; SE will win their group with easy.draw with Argentina and crush Greece and S.Korea;SE will WIN the World Cup...SE will at the very least; qualify for the Semi-final; SE is Africa's Football GIANT; SE will crush GREECE; S.Korea are minnows..we Will score avalange of goals against them;Bafana BAfana will not get a single point nor a score a sngle goal; BB are weak..they will loose all their games; BB were lucky to draw with Mexico; BB did not play the real France.....
Now that reality has sunk in, none of those people are commenting constructively, now they throw insults, lame reasons why SE performed BAdly than BAfana bafana; How BB were lucky; The fact is result now do not lie to say who performed better between the two countries looking into the strenghts of the oppositions; going forward again it shows that BAfana BAfana are improving and Super Eagles's peformeance has dropped...Can't wait for 2012 CAN 2014 Brazil Qualifiers.

nigerians arejust big heads(literal and figurative) big asses, big egos and no brains. where is walee22? i told you guys, you are finished. it is a lesson, action speaks pouder than words. i am suprised that yu are suprised you lost. 4 people with big heads like yours i thought u will be able to see that yakubu is blind. stop living in the past. anyway you have only won how many afcon cups? i have never been so happy in my life. nija is a dead snake, dead. you are a dissapintment nigeria. go to hell in lagos. ha ha ha ha ha ha, he he he hehe he he he. still very proud bafana suppoter. which tam are you playing in the last 16 nija brothers? the gomora and sodoma of africa is cursed. serves you well.

tk.: 2010-06-23 08:24

nigeria will winthe weorld cup this year. tsi tsi tsi tsi tsi tsi tsi. in your wet dreams!!!! welcome to reality big dumbos. you call yourselves super eagles, all i saw were headless chickens running around adoring the koreans. the only thing u r good at is running brothels. if there was a world cup of brothels, you will win convincingly. come to think of it, yakbu can make a good boouncer. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. hothaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat bana.

mthandos: 2010-06-23 09:03

i would really want to challenge the nigerians that since their super-chickens are out of the world cup, why don`t they go back home with them and see if our crime levels won`t decrease. we all know that nigerians, mozambiquans, zimbabweans are the ones who commit crimes and they are untraceable since they have no proper documentation to be in the country. as for football i told you that you can only do better in junior competitions coz there you always play overage players or using the so called soccer age as you would prefer to call it. you are the england of africa, u always fancy your chances in every major tonourment but choke big time when it is showtime.

SANDILE: 2010-06-23 09:13

Honestly speaking Nigeria is finished and to all those Big mouthed,"dicks" it is time you face the reliality your Nigeria SE are no longer the so called the powerhouse of soccer in Africa.Dont get me wrong I am not saying South Africa is but mark ma word give us 2-3 years will regain the top 10 bracket position in Africa.I pray to God whosever is going to take over PARRERIA should continue with his vision and with emphasises on DEVELOPMENT where we have seek the assistance of the GHANANIANS in implementing it no NIGERIANS because they advise you to practise age cheating which is what they are good at unfortunately it has not yield any good results for them.Viva Africa.

Udeme: 2010-06-23 09:30

@Veron, point of correction, Nigeria has won 2 nations cups and South Africa has won 1. People like you know nothing except TALK TALK TALK and make too much noise about things that you don't know. Also, yes you are right that South Africa has played 3 worldcups but you failed to point out that they (SA) qualified for just 2 of them and got through the back door on the other as host after failing to even qualify for the 2010 nations cup. Don't forget that Nigeria beat South Africa home and away in the qualifiers. NOW SOUTH AFRICA HAS MADE HISTORY AS THE FIRST WORLDCUP HOST TO BE ELIMINATED IN THE 1ST ROUND SINCE THE TOURNAMENT STARTED IN 1930. You should be more concerned about this bad record rather than making noise. By the way, you talked about 2014; well, I think BB should work very hard to build a strong team because there will be no back door entry for you guys anymore.

Udeme: 2010-06-23 09:48

@SANDILE, who told you that Ghana does not practice age cheating? You are jumping out of fry-pan into fire. Did you take a good look at their last U-20 team? Many countries practice age cheating including South Africa. You guys cheat but still you can't win tournaments. You guys even cheated by using a man to run in women's races, and you are here talking about cheating because you are just focused on insulting Nigerians and you are ready to say anything to do just that.

Udeme: 2010-06-23 10:02

@Thabo, yes it was a bitter-sweet day. The r.a.p.i.s.t.s (SA) are out. They believe that r.a.p.i.n.g. a child/babies/virgins can help to cure HIV/AIDS. Nigeria is out without making history, BUT SOUTH AFRICA HAS MADE HISTORY AS THE FIRST WORLDCUP HOST TO BE ELIMINATED IN THE 1ST ROUND SINCE THE TOURNAMENT STARTED IN 1930. You should be more concerned about this bad record.

Chief: 2010-06-23 10:56

Yakubu with the miss of the tournament. I thought my eyes were deceiving me. Africa's crap defence is only surpassed by our finishing!

Chief: 2010-06-23 11:09

Yakubu with the miss of the tournament. I thought my eyes were deceiving me. Africa's crap defence is only surpassed by our finishing!

Udeme: 2010-06-23 18:21

@Thabo, look who is talking, r.a.p.i.s.t like you. Do you think every Nigerian lives in South Africa. I'm a Citizen of a country (U.S.) that is far better than South Africa. So stop telling me to get out of SA. You call SA a beautiful land, trust me, there is more beauty here in the U.S. At least a lot of people here do not have HIV/AIDS like it is in SA. Can you guys stop r.a.p.i.n.g young girls and babies? By the way, Nigeria does not need to follow the same path as SA to host the WC. We don't like going to the WC through the back door like SA. We like to fight to get there. Remember, you guys could not even qualify for the 2010 nations cup. I don't see you guys qualifying for any WC in the near future because the back door will not be open any more. You said that countries like Nigeria should not speak because they don't have the potential to go through the back door?
