Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Angel Cappa is among the Argentinian coaches being shortlisted to take over from Diego Maradona.
Goal.com reports that Maradona's meeting with the AFA yesterday (Monday) has spelled the end of his reign as coach of Argentina.
Maradona put forward the conditions under which he would stay to president Julio Grondona during the meeting but it now looks likely there will be no renewal for the iconic coach.
It was made clear during the meeting that if any of Maradona's staff were removed from the set-up, el Diego would step aside; Grondona did not respond favourably to this idea claim South American sources.
The AFA reportedly intend to disband the staff roster and Maradona did not just reject the idea, he also wanted to augment the group further by adding Oscar Ruggeri.
Grondona has made no official comment as yet but Argentine newspaper Olé has confirmed the end of an era in yesterday's edition.
While it looks likely that Sergio Batista, currently in charge of the Argentine Under-20 team, will take charge of the Albiceleste for August's friendly against Ireland in Dublin, names of other potential candidates include Marcelo Bielsa, Gerardo Martino, Claudio Borghi and Cappa.
Cappa, who is currently at the helm of River Plate, held the reins at Sundowns from 2003 to 2005. Although the club did not win any silverware during his tenure, they lifted the League title in two successive seasons after his departure.
