Andres Iniesta explains t-shirt message

Iniesta explains t-shirt message

Spain's World Cup Final hero Andres Iniesta has offered an explanation to the handwritten message on his t-shirt after scoring the winner in the 1-0 win over the Netherlands at Soccer City.

The inside t-shirt of the Barcelona midfield genius read in Spanish: "Dani Jarque siempre con nostros" translated to "Dani Jarque is always with us'. Jarque is the Espanyol player who died after a heart attack in August and Iniesta said the World Cup glory for La Furia Roja was fitting tribute for the deceased central defender.

"I wanted to carry Dani Jarque with me and with my other team-mates. We wanted to feel his strength. We wanted to pay tribute to him in the world of football and this was the best opportunity to do so," said Iniesta.

While Iniesta was chatting to the media the party had already started in Spain's dressing room. Some of his teammates, including Cesc Fabregas, disrupted the media session when they stormed into the press conference telling Iniesta to leave the talking for the partying. However, Iniesta had a few words for his teammates before he left.

"This is something we must celebrate and we must be proud of everyone in the team from the first player to the last one," said the man of the match on the night.

"It is hard to put into words how it feels to win a World Cup. To win it that way was amazing. It didn't come easy and I still can't believe it. I'm just happy I managed to do my bit and score such an important goal. It is a game to remember and to celebrate. All we want to do now is go home and enjoy it," he said.

Iniesta concluded by declaring 'Paul the Octopus' a hero. The eight-legged 'psychic' finished the World Cup with a flawless record after predicting right all of Germany's games and the Final.

"As for the octopus, what can I say? We won, so the octopus needs to be more popular in Spain, like a hero," added the 26-year-old.

I was wondering, I could see he was saying something about Dani Jarque, but due to my inability to marster the language, I just kept wondering until kickoff break it down to us thanks, what a player! Iniesta you had a wonderful world cup and to seal it with a win in the final! you talk of icing in the cake!

What a tactical game this WC final it was! Unpleasant display of football! While others had a plan to play football, others had a plan to play others; the Dutch were pathetic to say the minimum.

But after the final whistle...SOCEER CITY stole the show. What a facility. While Spain rightfully deserves this triumph and will certainly enjoy it for the next few years, AFRICA was the real WINNER.

KidKudu7: 2010-07-12 11:03

This guy is a masterpiece in the midfield together with the other one, Xavi, damn I never there are such brilliant midfielders in Spain. I ways thought Brazil & Argentina always have the best but I guess I was wrong. These guys can really knock the ball around & able to break any defence in this world. Congratulations to Spain, you're are simple the best of the best!!!
