Nigeria coaches back Lars Lagerback

Nigeria coaches back Lagerback

Posted: 2010-03-12 11:46

Nigerian coaches will give new Technical Adviser, Lars Lagerback, all the support he needs to succeed, especially in the build-up to the World Cup.

Christian Chukwu, who coached the team between 2002 and 2005, told KickOffNigeria.com that after listening to the Swede outline his plans for the team, the coaches resolved to give him their backing "He came to our seminar, and he spoke well.

"He talked about his programme, his ambition and what he wants to and he impressed us.

"We have resolved to give him our support, not just because of what he said, but because he is one of us, irrespective of what country he comes from."

Chukwu is under no illusions as to the enormity of the task facing Lagerback.

"He has taken on a difficult job. Can he perform the miracle that we are all expecting? I don't know. But we have to make sure that we support him to the full so that our team can do us proud at the World Cup and beyond that."

Colin Udoh

Good. Lagerback has all the support from virtually everyone. From the PTF to the NFF, through the Nigerian coaches and the supporters/fans including this forum. Although I support you cos’ it’s a Nigerian project nevertheless, beware of the banana peels. No condition some people say is permanent but change. Also beware of certain players who though may not have anything to offer at the WC but have already welcomed you at Abuja and other places! I wish you all the best.

@Tefil, thanks for your comment, however, I think its laden with pessimism rather than being optimistic. We all know at the moment we don't have players who are top-rated. We don't expect magic from them.

What lagerback I learnt is trying to do is pick consistent league & fit players who can give their all in a team with positive results. This is the reason players like Kanu who should make way for younger ones give me concerns (no sentiments on this pls).

ken gadaffi: 2010-03-12 13:45

This sounds good. I hope they are not just flattering LAGERBACK.
With everything so far going good for the new coach, there should not be any excuses for failure. LAGERBACK, the ball is now in your court.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

I think we need to look beyond the Mundial at this stage. The best thing would really be to retain this guy after the world cup. Then he can embark on the real task of scouting for new talent (as he has already indicated), and building once again a team we can be proud of.

Ugonna: 2010-03-12 16:28

I believe the CAF award is an award for the achievements for the year....but here is a fact for every one:

1. Between 2008 to January 2010, Super Eagles played 17 consecutive matches before the AFCON (including matches against France and Ireland) and lost non.

2. Between 1988 to 2010 (22 years) Super Eagles has never gone below Semi-Finals in the AFCON except in 2008.

3.Nigeran youth football team has made the greatest and remarkable achievement in Africa.

4.Our Super falcons and Falconets has remained indomitable and unbeatable for several years in Africa

WHAT OTHER ACHIEVEMENT IS GREATER THAN THIS!, I am very proud of my country. i know everyday can not be Christmas. Our Super Eagles will come back to life one day.

ONE NIGERIA! SUPER EAGLES FOR LIFE. I love you all

To HELL with the Political CAF award

Ugonna, though I may not have noticed your contribution in this forum but your point is great. 'We' seem to focus on negatives sometimes but it is good to read your peace. Good thinking

Nice words and courageous words from the local coaches but Largerback should also know that he is in Nigeria and Nigerians alos follow good result and good names. am not praying for him to fail but he should not and never allow this numerous praises to take his attention, cos this same guys praising him will end up calling for his head.

with all views and from the way things are going presently, i think this new coach will do well in the world cup even if he choose to go to South Africa with young players. but once again, he should allow players to merit their jersey, there should be no automatic shirt for anybody.

@ Sarah, i think is not time to start counting the eggs knowing fully well that the new coach is yet to execute his plans. yes, he has program and good plans, but we should be happy and giving him kudos when he starts executing them.

once again, i really wish the this set of Technical crew goodluck, it wont be a bad idea if they become the first set of technical crew to bring home the world cup to nigeria and to Africa.

@ Okey, It seem you and Ken Gadaffi have some personal reasons behind your beefing, cos you guys just beef yourself without any good reason. the other time you guys are talking about your wife on a public forum. indeed maturity is not on the way you apply good diction but its a thing of the mind. Please dont count this as an insult.
best regards
Daniel.

seems Okey is in love with Ken Gaddaffi. Why do you have to spend all your time commenting on another man's opinion? everyone has a God given right to their views. it is also wrong to say because someone backed another coach he cannot comment on his team again? it's like saying because you voted for the opposition party you are no longer a citizen. stop bashing this guy around it's becoming boring. so we have another coach and most of the people got their wish, can we move on please? why do you need to pin it on Ken? i also backed Amodu and i back Lars now because super eagles is my team. no one can take that from me or anyone else because you did not make us Nigerians. By the way if you reply with abuse i will not comment because i really don't have the time for it. unless of course i am very bored. Ken Gaddafi, my advice to you ignore the attacks and when they get tired they will focus on something else. there is no way someone i can't see can stay in his house and make me angry in mine. IMPOSSIBLE

adebola: 2010-03-12 17:16

thanks Daniel people really need to grow up. Nigerians can't accept when people differ from them. you can have a view and someone else have another view that may even be stupid. what does it matter? everyone has a right to their views. you try to convince them, if you can't, you leave it and stop trying to bully people around. Mini dictators. Abachas in training

To Tefil

Well said - very realistic. You hit the nail the nail indeed -

if only Nigeria competed in the 2 ANC's that we were banned from im sure that we would have one at least one WC by now. After 1997 everything went down hill with our players no longer been taken seriously at club level -

Well lets hope for something -

@Ugbona, just few lines and your comment made my day. Thanks for reminding us of some of our postives and it shows that we are not all about failures.

There is a lot hidden inside of us (Naija) that good organisation, management and direction can help propel.

Believe me Super Eagles will rise again.

Much love here brother.

Super Eagles for life.

God Bless Nigeria!

but at 61, I wonder if he has the stamina to work with black horses. If he can't, his experience is of little relevance.

please my co forum members, I want to beg you people to stop mentioning that name @AMODU in this forum, or else I will resign from here and join four four two, Amodu is not a coach and his name should not be mentioned here, he is a disgrace to modern soccer, he only lead his team to play what I see as anti football. I wish Lars well and also the rest of whoever he may choose to assist him, but not Amodu or Amokachi, those guys have nothing to offer SE, I wanted Siasia to be given the job but NFF or whoever is concern have done their wish, I still wish them the best as a humble Nigerian, good luck SE, good luck Nigerian soccer fans.

Hopewell: 2010-03-14 15:01

@ Tefil: You are spot on!!! These are the kinds of enlightened minds I would like to discuss and share opinions with. Very, very objective. Nailed the coffin of sentiments and buried it deep down the earth. Presently, we don't have a team and I am ****sure Lars knows very well. In one of his previous interviews, he said the present SE doesn't have her best players. Football is played with more intelligence than physical strength. Little wonder Taiwo plays his freekicks like an aeroplane that is taking off. Tefil, you touched all the departments of the game and I don't know what to add to your post. Please, just keep it up!!! Someone mentioned you are pessimistic. That is the problem of many Nigerians. They don't like hearing the truth. In my opinion, a problem identified is half solved. We shouldn't celebrate mediocrity.

utibe: 2010-03-19 18:41

Political talk. Let's wait and see hw long the talk will last.

utibe: 2010-03-19 18:50

Ugonna, it is Amodu's fit to have played 17 matches b/w 2008 and 2010 b4 afcon and lost none. A coach dat has achieved this what category is he? The answer is a World class coach. Nigerians and NFF have succeeded in victimising the best and wold class coach ever to be produced by Nigeria (2 times he coach SE 2 time he qualifies SE 4 W/cup. A fit otto gloria, westerhof etc cld not achieve). How I wish FIFA should ban Nigeria for terminating abruptly Amodu's contract. See ya...
