A certain FC Barcelona star, who is wanted by Manchester United, has reportedly decided against signing a new deal at the club.

Frenkie de Jong's future has been a discussion in the media as he is about to enter the final two years of his contract.

However, Mundo Deportivo have now reported that the Dutchman is set to leave the club on a free transfer in 2026 as he has no desire to sign a new deal.

The report adds that Barcelona have already offered the former Ajax Amsterdam a new deal, but they fear he would rather run down his contract.

Meanwhile, former PSV Eindhoven player Kaj Ramsteijn feels reported incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot should take De Jong to Anfield next season.

“Arne Slot to Liverpool, take Frenkie De Jong with you. I would think that would be a nice club for him," Kaj Ramsteijn told Voetbal Primeur.

"I think Frenkie is so good that I really want to see him play for trophies. Of course he became champion last year, but if Real Madrid sign Kylian Mbappé next summer…

“Then they will become champions by a mile in the next five seasons. Especially given the financial situation of FC Barcelona.

“And the Premier League seems really fantastic to me. He can play anywhere. He gets the ball, turns away and creates a surplus.”
