Football icon Diego Maradona's body could now be moved from its original grave site after a certain request was made to Argentina's courts.

Considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time, Maradona sadly passed away in November 2020, at the age of 60, following a heart attack.

He was laid to rest in a private cemetery near Buenos Aires, which is reportedly inaccessible to the public.

"All the heirs request by common agreement to authorise the transfer to his next destination of eternal rest... in a much safer place than the current one," a note presented to the court, signed by Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, and Veronica Ojeda (Maradona's youngest son's mother) on behalf of Diego Maradona Jr, reads.

"So that all the Argentine people and the citizens of the world can pay homage to our father who was the greatest Argentine idol."

The mausoleum, which is named "Memorial del Diez", is located behind the Casa Rosada, the seat of the executive branch of the Argentine government.

The mother of Maradona's youngest son, Veronica Ojeda, told media that the mausoleum will be open to the public and people will be allowed to pay tribute to the football legend.
