Former Egypt coach Rui Vitoria is reportedly set to receive a "penalty clause" after parting ways with the team earlier this year.

One of the biggest teams in Africa has now reportedly made a decision on a coach linked with DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs in an ongoing financial saga.

Rui Vitoria parted ways with the Egypt national team earlier this year following a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign that saw the side go winless and exit the tournament at the round of 16 stage.

The 54-year-old had been appointed in July 2022, with the contract between the tactician and the Pharaohs believed to have been for a four-year period, with the mandate of qualifying the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Following his departure, the two-time Portuguese title winner has been linked with the potential managerial role at the Soweto giants, but is believed to still be embroiled in a battle with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) over the payment of a "penalty clause".

According to Veto, Vitoria has demanded the payment of the clause, which would add up to three months of the salary he earned while at the Pharaohs' helm, with his lawyers having reportedly sent a warning to the EFA to this effect.

However, it is now reported that the Legal Affairs departments of the country's Ministry of Youth and Sports has recommended that the manager's request be approved, and are currently studying the contract.

EFA president Gamal Allam stated that the governing body would "not mind" paying the clause based on the legal recommendation.

He went on to emphasise the federation's commitment to respecting contractual agreements, adding that the head coach's four assistants were paid out after their terminations.
